️按照英文的表达模式，第一句为总提，第二句为具体解释。
这里的“花酒”不是指古代有歌女伺候的宴会，作者针砭时弊，批评纵情声犬马、大吃大喝、尽情挥霍的社会现象。
️“清茶”不是一种像“红茶（black tea）、绿茶（green tea）这种茶，而是与追名逐利心态、腐朽的吃喝文化针锋相对，甘于清贫，乐于清高。“plain”有“朴素的”、“简朴的”、“不搀.....的”意思。“plain living”是简朴的生活，“plain water”是（不加东西的）清水，所以这句“清茶”译为“plain tea”。

“面对”一词宜译得生动些，aura引申义指“光环”，用在此处可指一些成功的企业家、得势的大人物，在崇拜者、追随者心目中的“神圣”、“高贵”地位。
“”描写那些看到别人成功、荣耀后头昏目眩随即尾随的可怜虫的神态。
这句里的“清茶”不再译为“plain tea”，中国文人雅士们认为喝茶是种简朴的乐趣，这样译为“simple pleasure”可与“成功与荣耀”作强烈对比。
“不会有成功等着你”如直译为“there will be no success waiting for you”较不生动，俗语“give/hand sth to sb on a plate”意为“把某物奉送给某人，让某人轻而易举地获得某物”。
原文中的“我”、“你”应一律译作“我”，使口气统一。

“早就枯死了”译作“it simply won’t grow”，荷花种在旱地上根本长不起来，更谈不上枯死。
