I.Introduction to author（作者简介）
1.Life（生平）
Louise Erdrich(1954-)was born in Little Falls,Minnesota,the daughter of Ralph Erdrich,a German-American,and his wife,Rita,half French-American and half Ojibwe.Both of Erdrich’s parents taught at a boarding school set up by the Bureau of Indian Affairs,and her maternal grandfather served as tribal chairman for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians for many years.In1976,she got Bachelor of Art from Dartmouth College,and got master’s degree of literary creation from John Hopkins University in1979.
Erdrich has finished13novels,in which she studies many complicated problems such as family relationship,personal identity and cultural existence of Indians and hybrid Indians.
路易丝·厄德里克(1954—)出生于明尼苏达州中部的利特尔福尔斯镇，父亲是德裔美国人，母亲是齐佩瓦族印第安人，双亲都是印第安人事务局附属学校的教师，外祖父是齐佩瓦族印第安人部落的首领。1976年，厄德里克获得达特茅斯学院文学学士，1979年获得霍普金斯大学文学创作专业文学硕士。
厄德里克已经完成了13部长篇小说，在其作品里，她探讨了印第安人和混血印第安人的家庭关系、个人身份和文化生存等方面的复杂问题。

II.Selected works（选读作品)
◆“Lulu’s Boys”《露露的儿子们》
“Lulu’s Boys”is selected from the sixth chapter of Love Medicine which tells a story that Beverly Lamartine,an Indian who works in city returns to Indian Reservation to claim his son Henry Junior bor
n to him and Lulu Nanapush Lamartine who is his later elder brother’s wife,but at last,he gives up his plan.
It’s proper to say that what happen among Beverly,Lulu and her sons represent the cultural conflicts between the white and Indians.Beverly and his white wife are representatives of the white culture,whose main characteristics include business,ambition,deception,grimness and discrimination,while Lulu and her sons are of the Indian culture,whose characteristics include nature,tranquility, sincerity,enthusiasm,and harmony.As attracted by the glamour of Indian culture, especially the harmonious family relations of Indians when Beverly gets along with Lulu and her sons,he cannot help recalling the intimate relations with his elder brothers.
At the end of the story,although Beverly gives up his plan,his“wings”are still patting,vividly indicating that those Indians assimilated by white culture have difficulties reevaluating Indian culture.
《露露的儿子们》选自《爱药》的第六章，讲述的是在城里工作的印第安人贝弗利回到印第安人保留地准备认领他与去世的哥哥的妻子露露所生的儿子小亨利，最后却放弃了这一计划。
可以说，发生在贝弗利和露露及其儿子之间的是白人文化和印第安人文化之间的冲突。贝弗利及其白人妻子代表的是白人文化，其主要特点包括商业、野心、欺骗、冷酷、歧视。而露露及其儿子们代表的是印第安人文化，其主要特点包括自然、宁静、真诚、热忱、和谐。在与露露及其儿子的接触中，印第安人文化的魅力，尤其是印第安人融洽的家庭关系，使贝弗利不禁想起他与哥哥们的紧密关系，再次走进露露的怀抱，并放弃了带走小亨利的打算。
故事结尾，虽然贝弗利放弃了自己的计划，但是他的“翅膀”仍在拍打，形象地反映出被白人文化同化的印第安人重新认同印第安人文化的难度。

Key:It tells us that Lulu knows clearly what kind of man she wants to marry.She is a very bold and straightforward woman,and she follows her own heart.
She is gentle and graceful.She is brave and responsible for her children,and she loves them very much.She is diligent and good at housework.But,most of her life she has been known as a flirt.
3.What are the possible effects of the time leaps in the story?
