Android是一种以Linux为基础的开放源码操作系统，主要使用于便携设备。目前尚未有统一中文名称，中国大陆地区较多人使用“安卓”或“安致”。Android操作系统最初由Andy Rubin（Google工程副总裁，充满传奇彩）开发，最初主要支持手机。2005年由Google收购注资，并组建开放手机联盟开发改良，逐渐扩展到平板电脑及其他领域上。Android的主要竞争对手是苹果公司的iOS以及RIM的Blackberry OS。2011年第一季度，Android在全球的市场份额首次超过塞班系统，跃居全球第一。 2012年2月数据，Android占据全球智能手机操作系统市场52.5%的份额，中国市场占有率为68.4%。

虽然谣传已久，但谷歌真正向人们揭晓的只是一款名为“Android机器人”的手机操作系统而非实打实的手机产品。Android基于Linux，坚持开源、免费的发展方式，很快获得AT&T和Verizon以及广大第三方开发人员的支持。

经过一年的发展，AndroidOS开始步入主流市场。HTC推出了第一款基于Android的手机设备：T-Mobile G1。它不像iPhone那样引起巨大的轰动，但向人们阐释了一款真实的Android手机到底是什么样的，且展示出Android最大的潜在优势：扩展应用程序能力。除了正常的盈利分红外，谷歌官方还拿出1000万美元用于奖励那么对Android应用程序作出贡献的开发者。
After one year’s development, the AndroidOS began to enter the mainstream market. HTC introduced the first mobile phone equipment based on Android: T-Mobile G1,(perhaps the person who knows the HTC must know the series of G,so-called by us G 系列), Although it didn’t cause great sensation like the iPhone , but it interpretated what is a real Android mobile phone , and show  Android’s large potential advantages: extend the application ability. Google officials also pledged ten million dollars to reward those who contributed to the Android application developers.
