Step-By-Step Instructions For Handling Editors to Process Manuscripts in Editorial Manager for the journal Computational Statistics (as of 2006-10-29).
This document focuses on efficiently processing manuscripts as a handling editor (i.e., associate editor or guest editor). It does not cover topics like how to change your password etc., for this please refer to the documentation which is accessible online at the top of every Editorial Manager page (Help).

The assumed editorial process and the steps in which you in the role of a handling editor are involved are:
(A1) Author submits manuscript to the editorial office of Computational Statistics
(A2) Editorial Office checks-in manuscript and assigns it to an Regional Editor/Editor-in-Chief (RE/EIC), depending on the country of corresponding author
USA/CANADA:  Juergen Symanzik (Regional Editor)
ASIA*: Yuichi Mori (Regional Editor)
Otherwise:  Friedrich Leisch (Editor-in-Chief)
(A3) RE/EIC assigns Associate Editor
(A4) Associate Editor invites reviewers (default = 2)
(A5) Reviewer agrees and sends review back to Associate Editor
(A6) Associate Editor sends recommendation to RE/EIC
- Accept (AE ACCEPT)
- Minor Revision (AE REVISE)
- Major Revision (AE REVISE)
- Reject (AE REJECT)
(A7) RE/EIC will be informed and RE/EIC makes final decision and sends decision letter to Author

(A8) If RE/EIC REJECT: Editorial Office sets Final Disposition
(A9) If RE/EIC ACCEPT: Editorial Office sets Final Disposition and releases manuscript to Springer production department.

Receiving revised manuscripts:
(B1) Author submits revised version of manuscript to the editorial office
(B2) Editorial Office checks-in revised manuscript and forwards manuscript to the Associate Editor
(B3) Associate Editor either makes an immediate recommendation (=> A6) or sends revised manuscript back to the reviewers of the previous version (=> A4)

Follow the instructions in this
email to access the manuscript
in Editorial Manager.

Type in your Username and
Password and click on

the first time you are asked to
check and confirm your
account information.
Please fill-in all required data
(marked with a red asterisk).
Finally click on
at the bottom of this page.

From within the Editor Main
Menu click on
New Assignments

You will see a list of
manuscripts assigned to you.
For each manuscript you have
a bundle of options (see
column Action).
Click on
to download and view the
PDF version of the uploaded
files (single file for printing).
View Submission  view manuscript and all subsequent revisions
Details  author information, keywords, author comments, notes, Editor(s),
Reviewer(s), etc.
History  view all correspondence and the status history.
Fiel Inventory  view the original files submitted by the author
Invite Reviewers  invite reviewers to peer-review this manuscript.
Submit Editor's Decision and Comments  make decision / recommendation / you
can also view existing reviews here.
Send E-Mail  send a so-called ad hoc E-Mail to inform the Editorial Office /
Editor-in-Chief besides the regular workflow.

You will get the PDF file displayed in a separate window.
Note: Make sure you have a proper Acrobat Reader
installation on your computer.
After viewing or printing just close the window to come back to the previous screen.
Depending on the impression you gained from the
manuscript choose your next step. You have 3 options:

First, if the manuscript is not in your fields of expertise or you are not available this time then click on Send Email , choose ‘Editor – Request to undo my assignment’ from the list of letters, click on
‘Customize letter’ and send an appropriate letter indicating your reasons to the editor. STOP HERE.
Second, If you want to reject the manuscript immediately without inviting reviewers fthen go directly to Submit Editor’s Decision and comments  and choose
decision type “Reject without reviewing procedure”. See chapter 3 “Handling Editor sends recommendation to Regional Editor/Editor-in-Chief” for details.
