一、内容
题目:Lao She’s Tea house
Teahouse is one of Lao She’s most famous plays. He wrote it in 1957. The play has three acts and shows the lives of common people in China from the end of the nineteenth century to the middle of twentieth century.
It tells us the story of Wang Lifa and the customers of his tea house in Beijing. It describes the changes in Chinese society over fifty years around the beginning of the twentieth century.
Lao She was born in Beijing in 1899. His mother sent him to a teac her’s school in 1913. After finishing school in 1918, he became a head teacher of a primary school. In 1924 Lao She left home and went to England.
He taught Chinese at a college in London and returned to China five years later. He wrote many plays, novels and short stories about people’s lives, and was named "the People’s Artist". Lao She is one of the greatest Chinese writers of the twentieth century.

Teaching Aims
Knowledge and skill aims:
Students can grasp the general idea of the whole passage by skimming. Students master the words and phrases: act, play, novel, short story and artist.
Ability Aims:
Students’ reading skills will be strengthened by skimming, scanning and intensive reading. Students can use the context to guess the meaning of words and improve their reading skills.
Emotional Aims:
Students learn to be aware of Chinese culture, and advocate to love and develop Chinese traditional culture. Students can understand teamwork spirit.
The key points:
Students learn to improve reading strategies like skimming, guessing between lines, and so on. Students can use the context to guess the meaning of words.
The difficult points:
Students are able to write a short passage about a film or a play.
Teaching procedures
Step 1: Warming up & leading in
(1) After greeting, the teacher will show the students a video about the Teahouse. And asking some questions related to the video.
Such as: 1. What’s the name of the short play? 2.Who is the play’s writ er?
(2) Let students look at some pictures and ask and answer the questions about Lao She.
What do you know about Lao She?
What are his most famous books and plays? What’s special about Lao She’s Teahouse?
Step 2: Pre-reading
Showing students the title of this unit. Then let students guess what the passage is about?
Step 3: While-reading
Skimming the passage and ask students: What does the passage talk about?
Scanning the passage to find out what the main idea of each part is. And finish the following matching exercise on the book.
Intensive reading:
Ask the students to read the Paragraph and answer the following questions:
When did Lao She write Teahouse?
When does the story take place?
What is the story’s main idea?
Read the passage about Lao She’s li fetime and then complete the timeline.
Step 4: Post-reading
Group work: five students in a group, let students talk about their favorite play or film in groups, and then share in the class.
Step 5: Summary & homework
Write a short passage that your favorite film or play and share it in the next class.
