a.  a number of…意思是“一些，若干”（= some），后接可数名词复数或代词，谓语动词用复数形式。
A number of my friends think I should take a holiday.
注：a number of…词组中还可以加入形容词表示数量大或小等（例如：a large/small number of…许多/少数……）。
b. the number of…意思是“…的数字/数目”，介词of同其后名词构成介词短语，修饰the number。当它作主语时，谓语动词用单数。例如：
Many people took part in 10,000-metre race, but only a number of them kept on running to the end.

How much…用法
a.用来询问事物的数量，后接不可数名词。例如：
How much milk is there in the glass玻璃杯里有多少牛奶
b.用来询问事物的重量。例如：
－How much does the pig weigh这头猪多重
  －Eighty kilos.八十公斤。
c. how much 意为“多少钱”时，可单独使用，也可构成词组how much money，但英语中常省略money，用来询问某物的价钱、价格。（注意：how much询问价格时，它的回答若是中国的货币单位应采用汉语拼音yuan, fen来表示，几角常采用几十分来表示，字母用小写，且不用复数）。例如：
－How much is the eraser这块橡皮擦多少钱－Ninety two fen.九角二分。d.用来询问数字计算的结果，相当于what。例如：
  －How much is three plus one三加一等于多少
  －It's four.等于四。
How many…用法
How many后加复数名词，置于句首询问数量，如：
How many letters does she write every day
回答时不但可以使用准确数字，也可以用a lot of, more, the most以及a few, fewer, the fewest来表示多或少。

结构：倍数+  as many/much + n. + as…
He has got three times as many books as his sister.
