Chi Zhen, an 18-year-old student in Seville, Spain, used his camera to tell the story of two lives, which is now hot online. Comments on the photos indicate that they have inspired many to believe that the future is in their own hands.
Chi has seen many of his peers living life without a goal, wasting their time and blaming bad luck for it. Feeling regret for them, he took a series of photos of his friends Veronica and Anna Maria, both freshmen at the University of Seville in Spain. They live completely different life styles and are getting opposite results. Chi hopes the photos will inspire those who have let go of their own fate.
In the photos, Anna Maria, a beautiful Spanish girl, can be seen watching a TV drama. “She spends most of her time in front of her laptop,” says Chi. “She loves watching TV so much that she has to just eat take-away food in front of her laptop every day.”
Anna Maria admits that she’s afraid of real social situations. She blames fate. “I’m not as lucky as Veronica,” she often says.
But she doesn’t know that while she’s wasting time watching TV dramas, Veronica, the “lucky” girl next door, has taught herself four foreign languages and traveled to many places. She goes to the library frequently and her extensive knowledge and experience allow her to take part in any conversation and become the center of attention.
Chi thinks that many of his overseas Chinese friends are like Anna Maria. They have to look at Veronica.
The influence of the photos has gone far beyond what Chi expected. One user commented on his photos on Renren, saying: “A wall separates two worlds, and the life we have d
epends on what we do. I’d rather grasp my fate now than complain about everything later.” Another is determined to make a change right away. “I’m turning off my laptop and not watching TV dramas any more,” he wrote.

Hebei Province will import(进口) 200 foreign experts to assist with 50 projects on air pollution control over the next four years, and create an industrial zone in which companies can develop solutions. The projects and experts will mainly from the United States, Britain, Germany and other developed countries.
The province saw an over abundance(大量) of smog (烟雾)in 2013: 236 days with an air quality index worse than the national standard for good air. There’ll soon be a series of measures aimed at cutting polluting industries. Meanwhile, the province plans to use foreign experts to lead a movement against air pollution with better financial support than in the past. All 11 major cities of the province will introduce programs to attract experts for environmental projects.
Zhangjiakou City, Beijing's northern neighbor, has already taken a step forward. The city cr
eated a zone for environmental protection industries and research centers in September. The headquarters of the zone, a facility of 5,000 square meters, opened on April 2 to provide services for overseas companies and experts. Another 20,000 sq meters will be ready in five months. Companies and institutions associated with high technology will be welcome to the zone. The city government promised that they’d be generous to give financial support to the environmentally friendly companies. What’s more, if an expert's work proves valuable, he or she will get another reward of up to 5 million yuan.
"We will do the most we can to guarantee clean air for the capital as well as support the bid for the Winter Olympics in 2022," an official said. “To reach the goal, we need experts with cutting-edge knowledge, because we believe we’ve possessed the basic technology for air pollution control. We need advanced models on forecasting and early warning of air pollution based on accurate calculations. Our current system is only at the primary stage.”
