Unit 2 Body Language
Teaching Purposes:
(1) Get the students acquainted with body languages, such as the way a person drives, the clothes a person wears, the ornaments a person uses and the colors people prefer.
(2) Give students more examples and help them realize that communication can be achieved with the body and behavioral signals.
(3) Assist students in comprehending the function of the Barrier Signal—the Body Cross, and the ways that males and females use it in relieving their nervousness.
Study and learn the following expressions:
peep 1 v [I, Ipr, Ip]
~ (at sth) look quickly and slyly or cautiously (at sth) 匆匆地(且诡秘地或小心地)看(某物); 偷看; 窥视: peep at a secret document 偷看秘密文件 * be caught peeping through the keyhole 贴近锁眼窥视被当场抓住. Cf 参看 peek, peer2.
(of light) appear through a narrow opening (指光)通过细孔透入: daylight peeping through the curtains 穿过窗帘的阳光.
appear slowly or partly 慢慢露出; 部分出现: The moon peeped out from behind the clouds. 月亮从云层中隐现. * green shoots peeping up through the soil 慢慢破土而出的绿芽.
peep n
1 (esp sing 尤作单数) short quick look, esp a secret or sly one 一瞥(尤指秘密的或诡秘的); 偷看; 窥视: have a peep through the window 隔着窗户偷看 * take a peep at the baby asleep in her cot 悄悄地看看小床里熟睡的孩子.
2 (idm tickle习语) peep of `day first light of day; dawn 晨曦; 破晓.
detect  v [Tn] (a) discover or recognize that (sth) is present 发现﹑ 察觉或查出(某事物):
The dentist could detect no decay in her teeth. 牙医检查了她的牙, 未见有龋齿. * instruments that can detect minute amounts of radiation 能检测极微量辐射的仪器 * Do I detect a note of irony in your voice? 听起来你是在说反话吧? (b) investigate and solve (crime, etc) 侦察, 侦查(罪案等): This police officer's job is to detect fraud. 这位警官负责侦查欺诈案.
detector n device for detecting changes in pressure or temperature, metals, explosives, etc 探测器.
giggle v [I, Ipr] ~ (at sb/sth) laugh lightly in a nervous or silly way 咯咯笑; 傻笑: Stop giggling, children; this is a serious matter. 孩子们, 别傻笑了, 这是严肃的事情. * giggling at one of her silly jokes 让她那拙劣的笑话逗得咯咯笑.

giggly / ˈgɪglɪ; ˋɡɪɡlɪ/ adj (often derog 常作贬义)
1 inclined to giggle 爱傻笑的: a giggly schoolgirl 爱傻笑的女学生.
2 having the sound or quality of giggling 咯咯笑的; 傻笑的: giggly laughter 咯咯的笑声.
NOTE ON USAGE 用法: 1 Snigger (US snicker) indicates childish and disrespectful laughing at somethingregarded as unusual or improper *snigger(美式英语作snicker?指对异常的或不当的事发出幼稚的﹑ 不尊重的笑声: What are you sniggering at? Haven't you seen people kissing before? 你们笑什麽? 没见过接吻吗? 2 Giggle is also childish. *giggle也指发出幼稚的笑声. It is often uncontrolled (a fit of giggling/(the) giggles) and is either in response to something silly or a nervous reaction 这一词常指失去控制的笑(a fit of giggling / (the) giggles The children couldn't stop giggling at the teacher's high-pitched voice. She giggled nervously when the judges congratulated her on her costume

3 to begin to laugh
