Among the kinds of social gestures most significant for second-language teachers are those which are __26__ in form but different in meaning in the two cultures. Many Brazilians cannot read. In 2000, a quarter of those aged 15 and older were functionally illiterate (文盲). Many __36__ do not want to. Only one literate adult in three reads books.
