a relatively young age.
Growing up on a75-acre farm,Bierma knew from an early age that art was going to be part of her life.Along with doing chores,Bierma’s passion for art started to really ignite as a seventh-grader when the plain white walls of Ninety-One School called out to her for color and vibrancy.____10____the chance to create a mural on one of the walls initially, she ran home, made a full layout, got paint donated and organized a committee, then came back
about a week later with a full plan and got a‘yes’.
As Bierma grew as an artist, she realized that she wanted to share her passion and her creations with a larger audience. But how?
“I started selling my art in the beginning of high school at markets and coffee house shows, but I just didn’t see the____11____in people buying originals,”Bierma said,“That’s kind of where my idea for the stickers came from.I wanted to make it easy, convenient and____12____for people to buy my art.”
Ah,the stickers. It is here that Bierma was able to watch passion, art and reality____13____.The results have been____14____.In November2019,through a website that would turn scans of her unique art int
o stickers, Bierma ordered her first set of____15____stickers.“It was$104(about728yuan)for150stickers,and it was all my money,”she said.
Soon, she was selling her stickers in the hallways of CHS all day long. She also hit up five to10stores each weekend across Canby and other locales, just looking for a(n)____16____point into the retail market. She found some takers, but a store in Oregon City proved to be a doorway to a much bigger world for her creations.
In April2020,a group of gift representatives saw Bierma’s stickers and those middlemen were able to
____17____her line into stores throughout the northwest, and in2020,she had sales of more than17,000stickers.
“That’s when I was forced to realize that this was a business.I had to figure out invoicing, credit cards, all that fun stuff,”she said.“I had become a full-on artist who had to learn to do business. It’s fun to see a design that’s close to my____18____and discover that what I love is what other people love, too.”

____28____the details of the cerebral(大脑的)electronic activity. They would be able to____29____that information to a receiver inside a special helmet or cap,so there would be no need for any wires extending from the scalp(头皮).
As a further step,Ray Kurzweil also consider the nano transmitters being able to connect you to a world of virtual reality on the Internet, similar to what was depicted in the film‘Matrix’.With the nano transmitters in place, by thought alone, you could log on to the Internet and instead of the pictures coming up on your screen they would play inside your mind.____30____sending your friends e-mails you would agree to meet up on some virtual tropical beach.
For Ray this would be,quite____31____,heaven.Once you upload the brain onto the Internet and log on to that virtual world the body can be left to rot while your virtual self carries on playing Counter Strike forever.
Generations of Christians believed in Christ partly because his rebirth held out the____32____that we

Traveling through time
As children,we dream of growing older;when we are older,we dream of being children. We let our lives pass us by because we have yet to learn that the harder you yearn for time, the faster it passes. This is how my story begins.
In October of my freshman year,I took an accidental trip down memory lane. One day after school,I decided to take the long way home,I needed time to think. So off I went, walking through the grass. That was how I came to find a gap in the fence lining the school property.I passed through this gap and followed the treeline until I found myself in the far fields behind the neighborhood.
Suddenly,I remembered it was here through the fence between the school and the fields that I watched older kids having their high school graduation ceremony. In cap and gown(长袍),they stood in the middle of the field. They looked like they were having the most fun I had ever seen anyone have;they looked free.
Years later,I walked through that field on my way home from that same high school. The soccer nets were long gone, and the paint lines had washed away with the rain, but there it was, just as I remembered it.The old field felt like a moment trapped in time,a long-forgotten memory. Here I was, standing in between my past and my present and trying so hard to figure out just how all of those
years had passed me by so quickly. The gap in the fence seemed like a distinct line between my years.A doorway between5and15.
I’ve since given this place a name,Tempus Illud,a place between places.I try to take the long way home at least once a month now.Sometimes, when I cross that bridge,I see that younger version of myself. She is so young and so desperate to speed up time.I see her peering through the fence at those graduates in the cap and gown, and she’s wishing she could be just like them. She,too, could feel so free that she might just grow wings and fly away. Now I’m preparing to wear the cap and gown in a few short months. But this time,I wish to leave time to its own devices.
The harder you yearn for time, the faster it passes you by.So I no longer yearn. The passage of time is inevitable, and you can’t avoid it,but you can appreciate it.James Taylor sings,“The secret of life is enjoying the
passage of time…Nobody knows how we got to the top of the hill, but since we’re on our way down,we might as well enjoy the ride.”

The actors Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin are among50wealthy people, charged Tuesday in what Department of Justice officials called the largest college cheating scam()it has ever accused. The FBI alleged that parents spent up to$6.5million to guarantee their children’s admission to elite universities by inflating entrance-exam scores and bribing college officials.
It’s the extreme, illegal version of what parents often do,attempting to bend the college-admissions system to their will to ensure their children’s privilege, convinced that a college name will lead to“success.”Parents believe that an elite school will make their kids happy or give them an edge in life. But the misleading focus on a“roadmap
to success”not only isn’t a guarantee of either result—it’s also terrible for kids.
