Unit 1
1. Do you prefer a slow pace of life or a fast pace? Give your reasons.
With the rapid development of our country, people’s living standard remarkably improves. There is no doubt that people’s daily life has changed a lot over the years. I still prefer a slow pace of life. Under the changes of society, most people are more or less forced into the quick-fix lifestyle. To keep up with the fast pace of life, people are as busy as bees. There are always so many things to do. They aren’t so patient. They prefer to buy fast food in KFC, McDonald’s or family mart rather than make by themselves or wait in line to buy lunch. They like fast picture which take by digital cameras. They don’t write letter by hand and go to the post office to send it. What they should do is just typing it on the computer and sent the email. It’s fast and it can save much time. However, the fast life deprives us of not only the experience of life but also life itself. It’s difficult to see anything clearly in such fast pace. Yes, it’s time to stop and think about the price we pay for this breathless life and we are losing along the wareact to的用法
y. Sometimes, just slow down and enjoy the life. Have a try to relax now, pay later. Eating slowly and savoring the food, reading slowly and absorbing the book. You will find that life filled with new experience. It can also make us aware of how to live, how to work, how to treat ourselves!!!
We live in a fast-paced society. Walking slows us down.
2.If your best friend is going to study in America, what advice can you give to him(her) to help ease culture shock?
If your best friend is going to study in America, what advice can you give to him(her) to help ease culture shock? Each society has its own beliefs, attitudes, customs, behaviors and social habits. Thus, you need to be cautious when they meet people from different country. But you can do something to avoid being embarrassed and help to ease culture shock. Firstly, not only understand their language, but also know the exact meaning and culture of the language. We all know that America is an English-speaking country. Your English has not problem, but you need to be familiar
to the slang they use in daily life. Secondly, try to know their lifestyle. You can know something from American series and films. Or ask someone who has studied in America before. And when you are in America, embrace the culture of Americans. Be willing to experience new things, to talk with the locals, to explore your new town or city, and to immerse you in the culture. Lastly, Keep in touch with family and friends. Make a home call, send emails and so on. Keeping in touch will allow you to ease some of your homesickness and to share your new adventure with loved ones.

Unit 3
5. Would you mind marrying a person from a different culture or nation? Why or why not?
In my opinion, marrying a person from a different culture or nation will face many problems, so I’d better not. On the one hand, it may be hard for us to understand each other. We may have different languages. And there are too many different cultures and taboos in languages. If we can’t know the differences well, we will be hard to communicate with and understand each other. The different customs, different beliefs are what we need to adapt to. On the other hand, I'm also worried about the problem of our family. I don’t think marrying a person from a different culture or nation is accepted by our parents. Although the world is open today, our parents are still conservative. Communicate is also a big problem for them. The language barrier is really a tough thing. However, cultural differences are harder to accept. Thus I would not marry a person from a different culture or nation.
6. Do you think marriage based on love is more successful than arranged marriage? Why?
Generally speaking, marriage based on love is more successful than arranged marriage. The marriage which bases on love can go longer than arranged marriage. Although arranged marriage may get the support of parents, we don’t marry for parents. The person you married with will accompany you on your lifetime. If you didn’t have basic love, it is hard for you to live with each other. And people marry with love know more about each other, and their marriage is free of argument. What’s more, without love marriage is easy to have quarrels and lead to break up. As for marriages based on love, they are not without problems. But the problem seems easy to solve, because they know each other better.
