When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be very difficult to let your anger go off. But forgiveness(原谅)is possible – and it can be surprisingly helpful to your physical and mental health. Indeed, research has shown that people who forgive can have more energy, better appetite and better sleep. “People who forgive show less anger and more hopefulness,” says Dr. Frederic Luskin, who wrote the book Forgive for Good. “So it can help save on the damage to our system and allow people to feel more energetic.”
So when someone has hurt you, cool down first. Take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, someone you love. Don’t wait for an apology. “Many times the person who hurt you may never think of apologizing,” says Dr. Luskin. “They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don’t see things the same way. So if you wait for people to say sorry, you could be waiting a very long time.”
Next keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean accepting the action of the person who worries you. Mentally going over your hurt gives power to the person who brought you pain. Instead, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.
Finally, try to see things from the other person’s perspective(看法). You may realize that he or she wa
s acting out of knowledge, fear – even love. To get perspective, you may want to write a letter to yourself from that person’s point of view.

One of the most important things in the world is friendship. In order to have friends, you have to be a good friend. But how can you be a good friend at school?
Listen—listen when they are talking. Don’t say anything unless(除非) they ask you a question. Sometimes it’s not necessary for you to have anything to say;they just need someone to talk to about their feelings.
Help them—If your friend is ever in need of something, be there to help them. You should try to put them first, but make sure you don’t do everything they want you to do. Try to take an extra pencil or pen with you to class in case they forget one. Have a little extra money in your pocket in case they forget something they need.
Be there for them—Be there for your friends to help make them feel better in hard times. Marilyn Monroe, a famous US actor, once said, “I often make mistakes. Sometimes I am out of control, but if you can’t stay with me at my worst, you are sure not to deserve(应受,该得) to be with me at my best.”Always remember this! If you don’t want to stay with your friends when they’re in hard times, then you don’t deserve to be with them when they’re having a good time!
Make plans—Try to make plans with your friends. Go shopping, go for ice cream, have a party, go to a
movie and so on. Take time to know each other even better by doing something you both enjoy. By planning things together, you both can have a good time. And you’ll remember these things when you’re all old.

Mark Twain was the pen name of Samuel
Langhorne Clemens. He was born on November
30, 1835, in a small town in Florida, the USA. He
grew up with a few naughty boys who later
appeared in his stories. Perhaps you are familiar
with some of his books, as The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
At the age of 12, his father died, and he began to
work, first as a printer, then a pilot on a river boat. Those years on the boat went into his book Life on the Mississippi.
During the Civil War he worked as a reporter and used Mark Twain as his pen name. The stories he wrote in this period made him famous and popular. He made a lot of money by writing, lecturing and running his own publishing house. But he spent all of it on his high living and unsuccessful business.
Mark Twain was known as a world-wide famous writer and a humorist, which means funny man. But in fact, he took a serious view of life. Many sad things happened in his own life. Without the creativity of one man, there would be no “happiest place on earth”, also known as Disneyland.
Walt Disney was born in 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. As a child,
he enjoyed drawing and even sold his pictures to neighbors. When
he was sixteen, he joined the Red Cross and drove an ambulance
in France during World War I. After the war ended, Disney started
making short cartoons in Kansas City, but soon ran out of money.
He decided to try his luck in Hollywood. He came to California
with a suitcase and $20 in his pocket.
It took a while, but Disney began to enjoy success with his
cartoons. He created Mickey Mouse, the most famous cartoon
character ever. Then in 1937, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was first screened. It was the first full-length cartoons, and it turned out to be a huge success. Disney made many more movies that we still watch today, including Pinocchio, Dumbo, and Bambi.
It was in the 1940s that Walt Disney first had his brainstorm about a fun park for families. His idea grew bigger and bigger, and he realized he needed a lot of space for his park. He wanted it to have everything—a mountain, rockets, spinning teacups, and a fairy castle!
Years after Walt Disney first had the idea, Disneyland opened in 1955 in Anaheim, California. Admission(门票)cost a dollar. In the next ten years, 50,000,000 visitors came to the Magic Kingdom.

The next time you go into a bank, a store, or a supermarket, stop and listen. What do you hear? Music is playing in the background. It's similar to the music you listen to, but it's not exactly the same. That's because this music was especially designed(设计) to relax you, or to give you extra energy. Sometimes you don't even realize the music is playing, but you react to the music anyway.
Quiet background music used to be called "elevator (电梯) music" because we often heard it in elevators. But lately we hear it in more and more places, and it has a new name "Muzak". About one-third of the people in America listen to "Muzak" every day. The music plays for 15 minutes at a time, with short pauses(暂停) in between. It is always more lively between ten and eleven in the morning, and between three and four in the afternoon, when people are more tired. The music gives them extra energy.
If you listen to Muzak carefully, you will probably know the names of many of the songs. Some musicians or songwriters don't want their songs to be used as Muzak, but others are happy when their songs are chosen. Why? They get as much as $4 million a year if their songs are used.
Music is often played in public places because it is designed to make people feel less lonely when they are in an airport or a hotel. It has been proved that Muzak does what it is designed to do. Tired office workers suddenly have more energy when they hear the pleasant sound of Muzak in the background. Factory workers produce 13 percent more. Supermarket shoppers buy 38 percent more groceries.
Some people don't like Muzak. They say it's boring to hear the same songs all the time. But other people enjoy hearing Muzak in public places. They say it helps them relax and feel calm. One way or a
nother, Muzak affects(影响) everyone. Some farmers even say their cows give more milk when they hear Muzak!
