摘要：PURPOSE:To prevent rapid temperature change of coolant in an upper plenum after rapid reactor stoppage by enclosing a control rod drive mechanism extension tube and providing a chamber in which the bottom end vertically extended from a reactor core upper mechanism is held a small gap with the top surface of a reactor core vessel. CONSTITUTION:In the normal operation of a fast breeder reactor constant nuclear reaction is produced and coolant is circulated from the upper part to the lower part in a reactor core 2 and so heated. The coolant flowed out from the top 8 of the reactor core 2 flows in an upper plenum 5 through an outlet 14 after it rises in the inner part of a cylindrical shell 13 from a chamber 15. In the case where the reactor is stopped immediately by a factor of a scram and the like, the temperature of the coolant flowed out from the reactor core 2 is lowered, the flow is reduced, the outflow of the coolant of this part in which the gap between the chamber 15 and a reactor core vessel 16 is narrow and labyrinthine is very small, almost rises in the inner part of the cylindrical shell 13 from the chamber 15 and flows in the upper plenum 5 through the outlet 14. Therefore, the vertical temperature distribution of the plenum 5 is almost constant and the temperature stress is not produced in a vessel 1 and the like.
