1. Backpacks in America
In America, you can often see many people walking with backpacks. Sometimes they are having a grip in the field, sometimes they are going for a picnic, and sometimes they are going to work. Why do they like backpacks so much? One of the reasons is that American like moving. They don’t like staying somewhere for a long time. It is said that about 40,000,000 people move their houses in America every year. They also always like to seek unfamiliar things. They often take risks. So they like to move.
They like traveling very much. Sometimes they will travel very far for a concert, a play or a drama, and even for a dinner. Some of them like hiking. They can enjoy much fun in hiking. Of course, they often need to carry their big backpacks. Now do you know why Americans like backpacks?
2. A box full of kisses
One day, a man punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting paper. In fact, the girl only wanted to make a beautiful box and give it to her father.
“This is for you, Daddy.〞                       
But the box was empty, so her father became angry. “Don’t you know that when you give someone a present there must be something inside?〞
The little girl cried, “Oh, Daddy, it’s not empty at all. I put kisses into the box. They’re all for you, Daddy.〞
Then her father understood the mistake he made, and kisses his daughter to say “Thank you〞 to her.
Some years later, the girl died in an accident. Her father kept the box for the rest of this life. When he was unhappy, he would take out a kiss and remember his daughter’s love.
3. Depression
most people use this word “depression〞 to say someone or something that’s sad.
Jessica, 12, has been feeling really sad and down lately, like everything in her life is going
wrong.
Logan, 11, tells us he’s always sad and almost always crying.
Keaira, 11, says she feels like she’s from somewhere else and doesn’t belong to this planet. She can’t talk to anyone about her problem.
Young kids have serious depression in fact. What is depression? How can it be treated? How do you help yourself or a loved one?
Depression sometimes begins with many bad things or a sad thing, like the death’s of a lovely cat.
Many people never ask for help because they are shy. But asking for help is really a good way of ending depression.
You can tell your problem to your parents. They will understand at once and try their best to help you. if your parents donfor the sale’t understand you, or they don’t want to know very much about it, do not stop looking for help! Visit your teacher or even the family doctor.
4. My family
There are four people in my family. They are my dad, my mom, my elder brother Jim and I. We are from one family, but we have different looks.
Dad is a big man with black hair. He is very tall but kind of fat. And he has very small eyes. Mom is a beautiful woman. She has big eyes and red hair. And she is quite thin. She is short.
Jim is a funny guy. He is tall, and his eyes are quite small. His hair is brown, and I don’t like that color. He likes sports very much, so he grows fast, and he is thin.
I am the best-looking one in the family. You see, big eyes and beautiful blond hair. Although I’m short now, I believe I will grow much taller soon. I’m kind of heavy, but it’s OK.
5. American parents teach their children to run money
In America, parents want their children to do something they can. For example, they want them to use money wisely.
When the children are still very young, parents have begun telling them the kinds of money. Parents also tell them how money can be used.
When the children become a little older, parents teach them to save up money. If the children want to buy something, they can use their own money. Parents will tell them what they should buy and what they shouldn’t.
When children use their money, parents often tell them to share with others. Parents are glad to see their children share their money and help others. In this way, the children can learn to be helpful. Parents also teach their children to make a plan for using money. It is good for them.
In America, people often sell some of their old things. So the children often put the old toys in front of their houses. If people buy them, they can get some money. Some children help others wash cars or sell newspapers to get money.
