摘要：PURPOSE:To produce hydrogen from hydrogen sulfide by separating hydrogen iodide formed by reacting hydrogen sulfide with iodine into iodine and hydrogen. CONSTITUTION:This invention relates to a method for producing hydrogen from hydrogen sulfide by-produced in a process for desulfurizing or gasifying heavy oil, a process for smelting sulfide ore or other process. A reactor for irradiating light is packed with 100 parts iodine. After keeping the iodine at about -50 deg.C and well degassing it, about 22 parts hydrogen sulfide is sealed in the reactor, and the internal temp. of the reactor is raised to 60-70 deg.C. With the temp. rise sulfur is deposited, and hydrogen iodide is generated. This gaseous hydrogen iodide is separated into iodine and hydrogen by irradiating light from a superhigh voltage mercury lamp. The amount of generated hydrogen is about 5mol% to the amount of the used hydrogen sulfide. Electrolysis or thermal decomposition may be carried out in place of the photodecomposition.
