    Why Kids Shouldn't Be Homeschooled
Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. I go to Oakwood Elementary School and I'm in 5th grade. Today I want to talk to you about why I think kids like me shouldn't be homeschooled and should go to a real school instead.
First of all, I love going to my school! My best friends Jake and Emma are in my class. We have so much fun together at recess playing four square and wallball. If I was homeschooled, I wouldn't get to see them every day and play with them. That would be really sad and lonely.
At school, we also get to do lots of fun activities and projects that would be hard to do at h
ome. Just last week, we did an awesome science experiment where we made little volcanos out of playdough and baking soda and made them "erupt" with vinegar. It was so cool to see the lava (ok, it was just baking soda and vinegar) oozing out! We probably couldn't have done something that messy and hands-on at home.
In art class, we use all sorts of different materials like clay, paints, scissors, and glue to make our projects. My mom wouldn't want me making that kind of mess and using those types of supplies at home. At school though, it's totally fine if we get a little paint on our clothes or the tables because that's what art class is for!
We also get to go on really neat field trips that help us learn about things in a much more fun way than just reading from a book. A couple months ago, we went to the science museum and got to do all kinds of cool experiments and see amazing exhibits. We never would have gotten to do anything like that if we were just homeschooled.
Another awesome thing about going to a regular school is that we have special classes and resources that homeschooled kids don't get. Like we have a computer lab with tons of
computers that we use to learn coding and do research. We even have a brand new multimedia room with a green screen and equipment for making videos and movies! My family definitely couldn't afford to have that kind of high-tech stuff at home.
We also have a gymnasium with basketball hoops, climbing ropes, and all kinds of sports equipment where we have PE class. Getting regular physical activity and exercise is really important for kids. If I was homeschooled, it would be easy to just sit around inside all day and not get any exercise. That's not healthy! In PE, we run around, play games, and learn about nutrition and taking care of our bodies.
The teachers at my school are also just way more qualified than my parents to teach certain subjects. My mom is really smart, but she doesn't have special degrees and training in teaching math, science, or other academic subjects like my teachers do. I want to learn from experts who went to school for years to learn how to be the best teachers possible.
Plus, my teachers use creative and fun ways to help us learn that I'm not sure my parents would be able to do as effectively. Like when we're learning our multiplication table
s, sometimes my math teacher will have us sing goofy songs and raps to help us memorize them. Or in reading class, we'll act out different scenes from books to help understand the plot and characters better. My parents probably wouldn't make learning that entertaining!
I also really enjoy having my work graded, tested, and challenged by someone other than my mom or dad. If my parents were my only teachers, I think it would be harder for me to have that outside perspective and feedback on my schoolwork. My parents might unintentionally go easier on me or not provide as much constructive criticism as my teachers do.
Speaking of parents, one of the main reasons I don't think homeschooling is a good idea is because I cherish and need my time apart from my parents. Don't get me wrong, I love my mom and dad, but I'm with them pretty much all day and night at home as it is. I think we'd all get really sick of each other if I never got a break to be at school away from them. Kids need some independence too, y'know?
Finally, I feel like a huge part of a normal childhood is about becoming part of a larger co
mmunity outside of just your family. At school, I'm a part of clubs, teams, and groups that give me a sense of belonging. Like I'm in the chess club, run for student council, and played basketball this past season. A homeschooled kid wouldn't get those same sort of shared experiences that help build character, confidence, and social skills.
So in conclusion, those are the biggest reasons why I believe kids are way better off attending a normal school than being homeschooled. We need opportunities for hands-on learning, field trips, special resources, physical exercise, exposure to diverse subjects, qualified teachers, creative teaching methods, objective feedback, independence from parents, and ways to be part of a broader community. Homeschooling just doesn't provide the same well-rounded, enriching experience that schools can. So unless your family is full of geniuses who can make homeschool as awesome as regular school, I'd say skip the homeschool and send your kids to a great school like mine!

    Why Kids Shouldn't Be Homeschooled
Hi, my name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. I go to Oakwood Elementary School and I'm in 5th grade. My teacher, Mrs. Robinson, asked us to write an essay sharing our opinion on whether kids should be homeschooled or not. I've given this a lot of thought and here's what I think.
