汉译英:翻译的定义 翻译是指把一种语言文字的意义转换为另一种语言文字。简言之,翻译是一种用不同的语言文字将原文作者的意思准确地再现出来的艺术。从以上翻译定义我们知道,原文中的思想必须尽可能的保持,不可有所增删。译者的任务只是转换文字而不是改变其意思。因此,翻译有两种要素:准确性与表达性。准确性是翻译的首要条件。译者必须谨慎的遵循原作者的意思,所选用的字词和句式结构必须如实的传达出原文的意思。表达形式让疑问易于理解。换言之,译者必须用自己的手段尽可能地将原文的思想清楚而有力的表达出来。准确性是译出的思想明确无误,而表达性则使译文生动,更具魅力。

直译与意译
直译与意译使翻译理论中的一个基本问题,也是各种翻译方法研究的出发点。翻译一个篇章、一部作品一般都不同程度地会用到直译或意译,而不同的篇章、体裁在直译与意译的趋
向程度上往往有所不同。一般来说,文献类(如法律文献、历史文献、学术文献、科技资料等)和新闻报道的翻译多采用直译,因为翻译这类文献关键在于译文的准确性;而对诗歌散文、戏剧电影、小说传记的以情动人的作品,翻译时应多采用意译,以充分再现原文的意境情趣。
