Attitude is Everything - An Essay by a 9th Grader
Hey guys! I'm here to talk to you about something super important that I've learned recently - your attitude really does determine everything in life. I know, I know, it sounds kind of cheesy and like something an adult would say to try and motivate you. But hear me out, because this is a lesson that has totally changed my perspective.
I'll be honest, until recently I was kind of a negative person. I would complain about having to go to school, moan about my homework, and just generally have a bad attitude about things. My parents and teachers were always getting onto me about it, but I just thought they were being unfair and naggy. Like, of course I was going to complain about boring stuff, right?
But then something kind of clicked for me this year. I realized that my constant negativity wasn't just annoying the people around me, it was actually making me miserable too. When you go through life looking for reasons to be unhappy, you'll always find them. And it's a total drag!
It was like I had these "negativity blinders" on that caused me to focus only on the bad stuff and ignore all the good things happening. My bad attitude made school more difficult than it needed to be, strained my relationships with family and friends, and just generally put a dark cloud over everything.
Finally, I decided enough was enough. I was going to try this "positive attitude" thing that adults are always talking about and see if it actually made a difference. And you guys, I'm not exaggerating when I say it has completely transformed my life.
Just by consciously trying to be more positive and look at the bright side of things, I've gone from being a total grump to a way happier and more fulfilled person. Instead of walking around with a frown permanently etched on my face, I actually find myself smiling a
nd laughing way more. Who knew?!
For example, when I get a bad grade on a test or Assignment now, instead of instantly deciding that I'm a failure and school is stupid, I take a breath. I think about what I can learn from the experience and how I can improve next time. Basically, I choose to take the constructive path instead of the negative, unproductive one. It's not always easy, but it really does make a huge difference.
Maintaining a positive mindset has helped me in every aspect of my life - my schoolwork has improved because I'm not instantly deciding everything is horrible, my relationships are better because I'm not always in a sour mood, and I'm just an all-around happier person in general. It's crazy how much power our attitudes have over us.
I really hope some of you will take this message to heart and choose to be more positive too. Don't get me wrong, I still have negative moments here and there. I'm not some sort of fake, constant smiley robot. But I am much more conscious now about not letting bad attitudes and negativity take over my life. It's just not worth it to go through the world lookin
g for reasons to be miserable, you know?
Instead of wasting energy on negativity, I try to focus on feeling grateful for the good things I have and looking for the positive side of tough situations. I promise, once you start doing this, it becomes a habit. You'll be amazed at how much lighter you'll feel without all that negativity weighing you down every day.
Developing a positive attitude really is a choice we all have to make for ourselves. You can be the person who wakes up already looking for reasons to complain and be unhappy, or you can choose to tackle each day with a positive, optimistic outlook. I promise the second option is so much better for your well-being and general happiness.
So that's my impassioned plea to all of you - make the choice today to work on having a more positive attitude! Don't be like my former, grumpy self who let negativity control my life for too long. Be conscious about your mindset and perspectives. Look for the bright side, express gratitude, and do whatever you need to in order to maintain a positive outlook as much as possible.
sort of order I'm not saying this is easy and you'll never have negative moments again. But I can promise that if you really work on developing a persistently positive attitude, it will massively improve your happiness and general quality of life. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes in how you experience each day. What have you got to lose?
Give it a try, guys. What's the worst that can happen? You might actually end up as a happier, more positive, all-around better person. Now doesn't that sound worth it? I'm living proof that attitude really does determine everything. Join me on this journey to positivity - I promise you won't regret it! Thanks for listening to me go on and on. Catch you later!

Attitude Really Is Everything
I'm just a 9th grader, but I've realized something kind of profound - your attitude towards things really does determine almost everything in life. I know that might sound kind of cheesy and preachy coming from a 14-year-old kid, but just hear me out.
