第一篇:阅读下面一篇短文,然后回答文后的问题。
How can we keep our young people interested in science? One answer might be dragons. When the University of Reading organized an open day to get children hooked on science, it sent out an invitation featuring a picture of a dragon and another of two astronauts walking on the moon. Remarkably, most kids didn't look at the moon men, even though they were in full color, but at the picture of the dragon. So, for the following year's open day they invited a man who breeds fossilized dragons!
The idea that interest in science is kept alive by providing things worth getting interested in might seem pretty obvious, but it's not how things work in many science classrooms. Most kids find science lessons boring. They don't see science as fun. They see it as being hard work, like learning tables in maths.
So instead of asking how we keep our students interested in science, what we should really be asking is what do we do that kills their interest in the subject? According to a report by King's College London, one reason for lack of interest is that science is often taught as a difficult subject, with facts to be learned by rote(死记硬背) rather than ideas to be explored.
The report also suggests that schools use too many high-street science textbooks, which provide nothing more than simplified explanations and are as far from the real world of science as the back of a cornflakes packet. The great scientists of history became great not through reading textbooks, but by getting their hands dirty in the real world of science. They were explorers, inventors, educators and communicators. And by doing so they joined in the intellectual adventure which culminated in the 20th century's scientific revolution.
Finding out where the dragons are sleeping is not a job for the easily discouraged, but teachers should be dragons. And so too should students.

These cars will be capable of moving at very high speeds because there will be no chance of their crashing into each other. In built-up areas, they will probably be forbidden to go faster than about 60 miles an hour, but on special roads, they may have a speed of 300 miles an hour.
