Experts in Shanghai passed a new rule in January. According to the rule, every family and institution (机构) have to sort their rubbish into different categories-recyclables, kitchen waste, dangerous waste and residual waste.
If anyone doesn't follow the rule, he/she will get a fine of 200 yuan. For institutions that don't follow the rule, the fine can rise to as high as 50,000 yuan. There is also a reward plan. People will receive some points when they deal with rubbish or trash in a designated area and during set times. They can use points to buy something such as soap and salt.
On Sina Weibo, the event of rubbish sorting has caught more than 70 million views. Some people say it's great for Shanghai to set an example to deal with the rubbish-problem in big cities, but some people say that they are worrying about the new rule. They think it's not easy to often sort rubbish.
