    Mike's Awesome Weekend
    Last weekend was the best! My name is Mike and I'm 10 years old. I had so much fun over the last two days. Let me tell you all about it!
    On Saturday morning, I woke up really early because I was so excited. My best friend Jacob was coming over to spend the night. Jacob is the coolest kid in my class. We've been best buddies since kindergarten.
    As soon as Jacob got to my house, we ran upstairs to my room to play video games. My mom had bought me the new Cosmic Blasters game for my birthday last month. Jacob and I had been looking forward to playing it together forever!
    We made our character avatars look just like us. I picked a blaster that shot radioactive ooze balls. Jacob went for the one that fired razor-sharp ninja stars. Then we blasted our way through the first few levels of the game. We had to defeat evil alien blobs that were trying to take over the galaxy!
    After a few hours of gaming, my mom called us down for lunch. We raced each other into the kitchen. I won, but Jacob says I cheated by taking a shortcut through the laundry room. No fair! We stuffed our faces with juicy hamburgers, crispy fries, and lots of ketchup.
    Once we were done eating, Jacob's mom came to pick him up. I was really bummed that he had to go. But my mom reminded me that my cousins Tony and Maria were coming to stay overnight too!
    Tony and Maria are twins who are a year older than me. They got to my house around 3pm, right when Jacob left. As soon as they walked in, Tony flung his smelly gym bag at me as a joke. Luckily I dodged it before it could pelt me in the face!
    Since it was such a nice sunny day, the four of us decided to go to the park down the street. We brought along my baseball gear to have a catch and kickball too. When we got there, we raced over to the field and played running bases for a while.
    After we were good and tired from running around, we grabbed a spot at a picnic table and my mom brought us snacks and lemonade. We relaxed in the shade for a little bit while we ate our snacks and recapped the incredible plays we had made on the field.
    Then we headed over to the playground and took turns going down the big swirly slide and seeing who could swing the highest on the swing set. Maria was the champ! My arms are still sore from trying to pump myself up higher than her.
    As it started to get dark out, we went back home and had macaroni and cheese for dinner. Afterward, Tony, Maria and I had an epic Nerf blaster war in the basement. We built forts on opposite sides and launched round after round of foam darts at each other! My glasses got knocked off at one point but it was worth it.
    Eventually we got tired and came up to the living room to watch a movie together. I got to pick since it was my house. I chose Transformers 3 because of all the awesome robot fighting scenes. About halfway through the movie, I looked over and Tony and Maria were already passed out on the couch!
    After the movie, I got ready for bed and texted Jacob to brag about the amazing day I had. He was probably just sitting around playing video games alone all day at his house. I couldn't wait for him to come back over the next morning!
    When I woke up early on Sunday, Tony and Maria were already up too. All three of us snuck down to the kitchen to grab a big bowl of sugary cereal before my parents woke up. As we were munching away, Jacob came skipping in through the backdoor.
    "Mike! Did you guys have as crazy of a weekend as me?" Jacob asked with a huge grin on his face.
    The four of us spent the next hour swapping stories about our epic weekend adventures.
Jacob's little brother had gotten really sick so his parents had to take him to the hospital. Jacob felt bad for him, but he also got to stay up late and eat tons of ice cream without anyone bugging him about it!
    After breakfast, Jacob and I went outside to my backyard to play astronaut explorers. We pretended my swing set was a rocket ship that was going to take us to make the first human colony on Mars. Tony and Maria joined in too, taking turns being the brave spacewalkers who had to exit the ship.
    All too soon, it was time for Jacob's mom to come pick him up again. She offered to give Tony and Maria a ride home as well. I was really sad to see them all go. But my mom reminded me that summer vacation was just around the corner. That meant three whole months of fun and adventures with my best friends!
