    My School: Then and Now
My name is Timmy and I'm 10 years old. I've been going to Oakdale Elementary since kindergarten and it's crazy how much the school has changed over the past 5 years! When I first started, it felt like a different world compared to now. I'll tell you all about the biggest changes I've noticed.
    The Playground
One of the biggest differences is the playground. Five years ago, we just had an old jungle gym, some swings, and a blacktop area. It was pretty boring if I'm being honest. We used to have to use our imaginations a lot during recess to keep ourselves entertained.
But a couple years ago, the school got a huge renovation and installed the most amazing new playground! It has these really cool climbing structures with tubes, bridges, and climbing

    My School: Then and Now
My name is Timmy and I'm a 5th grader at Oakwood Elementary School. I've been going to this school since kindergarten, and let me tell you, a lot has changed in the past 5 years! Back when I was just a little kid in kindergarten, things were really different around here.
    The School Building
When I first started at Oakwood, the school building itself looked pretty old and run-down. The paint was chipping off the walls, the floors were all scuffed up, and some of the windows were even cracked! The whole place just felt kind of dreary. But a couple years ago, the school got a huge makeover. They repainted all the walls in fun, bright colors, put i
n new floors and windows, and remodeled everything to look clean and modern. It's like a whole new school building now! They even planted a bunch of flowers and trees outside to make it look prettier. I'm glad I don't have to look at that old, ugly building anymore.
    The Classrooms
The classrooms also used to be really boring and plain 5 years ago. The desks were just old, scratched up wooden ones lined up in rows. The walls were basically blank except for a few outdated posters. And we just had those big dusty chalkboards at the front. It felt like we were learning in a prison cell or something! Now the classrooms are awesome. We have brand new desks that are so comfortable, with built-in cupholders and places for our tablets and laptops. The walls are covered in colorful paintings and decorations about what we're learning. And instead of chalkboards, we have huge interactive whiteboards that let us watch videos, look at pictures, and even do group activities right on the board. My favorite part is the special reading corners where we can lounge on beanbags and soft pillows to read. School is actually fun now!
    The Playground
Wow, the playground used to be a nightmare. It was basically just an empty blacktop area with a few rusty old seesaws and swings around the edge. We couldn't really play any good games out there except for four square or basketball. But now we have one of the coolest playgrounds ever! There's a massive jungle gym with tons of platforms, climbing walls, tunnels, and sliders all woven through a web of bridges and rope walks. They put in a turf field surrounded by cheerful flower beds where we can run around and play tag or kick a ball. We even have our own paved trail that winds through some trees and gardens where we can go for nature walks. Recess is 100 times better these days!
    The Cafeteria
I've saved the best for last - the amazing cafeteria renovations! Back in kindergarten, the cafeteria literally looked and felt like we were eating in a prison cafeteria. It had these ugly long tables and benches made out of hard plastic. The floors were that awful yellowed tiled floor from the 1970s. And the worst part was the food - it was basically inedible slop that I'm
pretty sure was grown in a lab rather than on a farm. No wonder everyone brought lunch from home! Now our cafeteria looks like a food court at a fancy mall. They have tons of different food stations set up, like a salad bar, pasta station, Mexican cuisine line, and even a bakery section with fresh cookies and muffins. And don't even get me started on the outdoor patio seating area and frozen yogurt machine! School lunch is legitimately good now. I always look forward to it.
Overall, Oakwood Elementary has basically transformed into an entirely new school over the past 5 years. Everything is clean, modern, and exciting now. The drab, depressing buildings and facilities I first knew as a little kid are completely gone, replaced with fun, engaging, and frankly awesome new spaces. From the classrooms to the playground to the cafeteria, this school really does feel like a totally different place compared to 5 years ago. It makes me happy to walk through the doors every morning instead of dreading it. Here's to 5 more years of a great school experience at the new and improved Oakwood Elementary!
