Dong Lin Temple
Dong Lin Temple lays half way up Lu Shan in Jiujiang, Jiangxi province. It is called Dong Lin Temple because it lies at the east of Xi Lin Temple. Dong Lin Temple was built by Hui Yuan monk during the East Jin dynasty. It is the one of temples with long history in Lu Shan and it is also the one of seminaries of Buddhism. So it has a great effect on Buddhism for a lot of countries.
A big pine, front of the Dong Lin Temple, was planted in East Jin dynasty about one thousand and six hundred apart from now. It is so thick and big that it could not be encircled with one person.
Bypass the tree, there is the second entrance of Dong Lin Temple. A tablet engraved with the word for ‘东林寺’on top of entrance. Entering the gate, there is a wide courtyard. The middle of courtyard is a pond which use for setting free the captured animals. There are some carps and tortoises in it. When the visitors arrive there, they often feed some food for these animals.
After the pond is the temple’s main hall. In the other temple, usually, the main hall is named “Da Xiong Bao Di an”. But in Dong Lin temple it is called “Shen Yun Bao Dian”. W hen I get into the hall, the first thing I see is the golden yellow sculpture of Buddha sitting in the middle hall. The Buddha has a clam smile on his face and he always see the person with the kindness eyesight. At the back of Buddha is the

Buddha. I once tried to count clearly these hands but I was to fail every time. Tow sides in the hall are another Buddha. Some of them have smile on their faces but some have hideous faces.
Though the main hall, I came to a small courtyard. There is a pavilion in the yard on the left. A lot of Cultural relics are displayed in it. The history of Dong Lin temple is reflected by these products. On the courtyard’s right is the place which use of eating the vegetarian food. It’s possible that you could eat the vegetarian food for free if you come to the temple about 11o’clock. That is delicious except without meat.
Though a path, I arrive in the back mountain. There is a spring be named wisdom-spring. The visitors think that if they drink this spring maybe they could become clever than before.
The stone staircases lead you from the foot of the hill straight to the hilltop. In the ladder, both sides have many trees. On the top of maintain, there is a small temple. You can pray and draw divination sticks at the temple.
In a word, Dong Lin Temple is worth going to sightsee.
