    I Love Spring!
    Spring is my favorite season of the year! After the long, cold winter when everything looks dead and gray, spring brings new life bursting forth. The world comes alive again with color and warmth. I get so excited when I see the first signs of spring appearing.
    One of the earliest signs of spring is when the snow starts melting away. The huge piles of dirty snow and ice that have been around for months finally begin to shrink. Puddles form everywhere as the meltwater collects. I love splashing through those puddles on my way to school, even though Mom gets mad that I track water all through the house. Once the snow is gone, the brown grass gets exposed and you can see all the litter and debris that has been hidden for months. It's kind of a mess at first, but at least you know warmth is coming.

    The really magical part is when plants start growing again. First come the crocuses poking up through the ground with their bright purple, yellow and white blooms. Then the daffodils arrive, those cheery yellow and white flowers that almost look like they are dancing in the breeze. Trees start budding and getting a green fuzziness to their branches. The first tiny leaf sprouts are such a hopeful sign that spring is here at last.
    My favorite spring blooms are the cherry blossoms and apple blossoms. The cherry trees in our neighborhood get covered in beautiful pale pink flowers. When a breeze blows, it rains down pink petals everywhere. The apple trees nearby burst into white and pink blooms, like clouds of cotton candy on the branches. I love the sweet, fresh scent that fills the air. It's one of the most wonderful smells imaginable after such a long, dreary winter.
    All the new plant growth means lots of color is returning to the world. The bright green of fresh grass and new leaves is such a vibrant shade. The gardens and parks get splashes of color as tulips, hyacinths, and other early flowers bloom in reds, oranges, yellows, purples and pinks. There are rainbow bursts everywhere you look. Even the sunlight itself seems brighter and warmer, like it has more energy after its long winter rest.
    Another exciting part of spring is seeing all the animals come back out. Birds flock back to the trees, filling the air with delightful chirping and singing. You hear the first robins and sparrows well before you spot their nests being built. Squirrels chase each other around, gathering nuts and other goodies to eat. Bees and butterflies emerge to dart from flower to flower. My dog goes wild with excitement at all the new sights and smells around the neighborhood.
    My favorite part might be the warmer temperatures that arrive with spring. Getting to shed those heavy winter coats, boots, hats and gloves is so freeing. I love going outside without getting all bundled up. It's fun to feel the warm sun and gentle breezes on my skin again. The fresh spring air smells so clean and refreshing after being trapped inside for months breathing stale, heated indoor air.
    With the warmer weather comes the return of fun outdoor activities. I can't wait to go on hikes, ride my bike for miles, have picnics and barbeques, and just play outside without freezing. Friends gather at the park to toss a frisbee, kick a ball around, climb on the playgr
ound equipment, and just bask in the sunshine. The neighborhood comes alive again with the sounds of kids laughing and playing in their yards and on the sidewalks.
    Spring is also when sports leagues start up again. Baseball, soccer, lacrosse – all the fun team sports get going in the spring when it's nice enough to be outdoors running around without bundling up. I get so excited for my first baseball practice of the season, being able to head outside afterschool when the weather is so beautiful. Playing chase or just goofing around with my friends in the fresh spring air is the best feeling ever.
    After being cooped up inside for so long, I just feel happier, healthier and more energized when spring arrives. There's nothing quite like getting to experience the rebirth of nature all around you. The world just looks prettier, sounds nicer, and feels more
