A Glittering Chinese New Year Handwritten Report
The winter holiday is finally here and you know what that means - Chinese New Year is just around the corner! As a student, I always look forward to this festive time of year when I can take a break from my studies and celebrate with family and friends.
One of my favorite traditions is making a Chinese New Year handwritten report or newsletter to display around the house. It's a fun way to get creative and learn more about the holiday's customs and symbols. This year, I decided to make mine all about the Year of the Rabbit since that's the zodiac animal for 2023.
When it comes to handwritten reports, I think simple and beautiful is the way to go. An ove
rcrowded, busy design can make it look cluttered and take away from the meaningful content. Here are my tips for creating a gorgeous yet understated Chinese New Year report:
Start with a Plan
Before putting pencil to paper, I made a rough outline of what sections I wanted to include. Typical components are:
• An introduction explaining Chinese New Year
• Overview of the zodiac animal for the new year
• Traditions like cleaning, decorations, foods, etc.
• Chinese vocabulary words or phrases
• Personal new year greetings or well wishes
I decided to focus on the rabbit zodiac sign as my main theme, with supporting details about symbols, colors, lucky meanings and fun facts sprinkled throughout. Having a basic blueprint helps the creative process flow much easier.
Choose Your Materials Wisely
You can't go wrong with a simple red or gold colored construction paper or poster board for the base of your report. These bright, warm tones are perfect for setting the Chinese New Year mood. Metallic, glittery, or pearlescent papers also look beautiful and festive.
For decorations, I gathered some rabbits cut from magazines, printed rabbit clip art, colored pencils, markers, glue, scissors, stencils and any other craft supplies I could find. Using pops of color with reds, pinks, greens and blues makes it eye-catching.
Make a Striking Heading
The title is the first thing people will notice, so I wanted to make an impactful heading for my report. I decided on a simple "Happy Year of the Rabbit" title arched at the top using whi
te and pink rabbit silhouettes.
To make the letters pop, I first traced the words using a pencil. Then I went over the outlines with a red marker and filled in the letters with pink colored pencils. Some white space helps the white bunnies stand out against the vibrant background.
Share the Rabbit's Lucky Meaningsspringfestive怎么读英语发音
Since this is the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac, I dedicated a section to share the lucky symbols, colors and meanings associated with this sign.
First, I wrote a paragraph introducing the rabbit as the fourth animal in the 12-year cycle and what personality traits it represents like mercy, elegance and good luck. Using magazine clippings and printed images, I made a border of different rabbit images along the top.
Underneath, I listed out symbolslike the moon, the colors red, pink, purple and blue, and the lucky numbers 3, 4 and 9. Small rabbit icons help divide up the different symbols and c
olors. Overall, this corner has a lighthearted, spring-time feel perfect for the rabbit sign.
Highlight Favorite Traditions
No Chinese New Year report is complete without mentioning the beloved traditions and customs. This is one of the main sections I wanted to focus on.
I started with the significance of preparations like deep cleaning the home to sweep away any ill-fortune and bad luck. Hanging up decoartions like lanterns, couplets and upside down fu characters are also musts.
A huge part of the celebration is the food! I made sure to include details on dumplings, noodles, whole fish and other lucky dishes. Drawing out the plates of food with colored pencils helps illustrate the section.
As a finishing touch, I surrounded the borders with labeled illustrations of firecrackers, bamboo plants, coins and other symbolic items using markers and metallic gel pens.
Add Personal Messages
To wrap up my handwritten report, I dedicated the final corner to personal new year greetings and well wishes for myself and my family.
Using colorful markers and calligraphy brush pens, I carefully wrote out "Wishing you happiness and prosperity in the new year!" in English and the Chinese characters underneath. Drawings of rabbits, lanterns and other accents help fill the space.
