    Spring in Wuhan
    Ah, spring is such a refreshing time of year in Wuhan! After the long, cold winter, the city comes alive again with warmth and color. The plum blossoms are the first to bloom, carpeting the parks and streets with their delicate pinkish-white petals. Soon, flowers of all kinds begin to blossom - peonies, azaleas, cherry blossoms. The vibrant colors are a feast for the eyes!
    In spring, the temperatures rise from chilly to pleasantly mild, with daytime highs around 20°C. It's perfect weather to spend time outside without sweating or freezing. My friends and I love flying kites, having picnics, and just enjoying the fresh air and sunshine at East Lake Park. The new greenery sprouting everywhere is so refreshing after the barren trees of winter.
    One of my favorite spring traditions is eating fresh lychees. The first batches arrive in late April or May, and they are so incredibly juicy and sweet. I always look forward to lychee season! On sunny spring days, street vendors sell bags of lychees, and my mouth waters just thinking about them.

    The Changing Seasons in Wuhan
    Wuhan is a city that experiences all four seasons very distinctly. As a 7th grader living here, I've gotten to witness the dramatic changes that each season brings. From the scorching summers to the freezing winters and everything in between, Wuhan's weather is always keeping me on my toes!
    Summer is definitely my least favorite time of year. The heat and humidity are almost unbearable. Just walking outside feels like you're swimming through a thick soup of hot air.
The temperatures regularly soar above 35°C (95°F) and sometimes even hit 40°C (104°F)! Most of my summer is spent inside with the air conditioning blasting, trying to stay cool.
    When I do have to go out, I wear as little clothing as possible. Shorts, t-shirts, and sandals are a must. I practically live in swimming trunks, dreaming of pools and waterparks to escape the sweltering heat. The sweat just pours off me constantly. My hair gets all matted down and my shirt sticks to my back. It's so gross! I can't wait for summer to be over every year.
    Autumn is a wonderful relief after those brutal summer months. The temperatures become perfect - not too hot and not too cold. The humidity also drops substantially, which makes being outside so much more comfortable. I love watching the leaves on the trees turn brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow. It's a spectacle of color! Wuhan has so many parks and green spaces that transform into these vibrant autumn wonderlands.
    My favorite outdoor activity in autumn is flying kites at one of the parks. The winds are just strong enough to get the kites soaring high up into the blue sky. I've spent many carefr
ee autumn days running around parks trying to untangle kite strings and launch my kite up amongst the falling leaves. Autumn nights are equally enjoyable, cooling down to perfect sleeping weather after those hot summer nights.
    Winter in Wuhan is no joke - it gets bitterly cold! I'll never forget how shocking that first real winter chill was when I was younger. One day I was comfortably wearing a light jacket, the next day I was freezing despite wearing three layers of clothing. Winters here can be harsh, with lows frequently dipping below freezing. When biting winds pick up, it can feel even colder than the thermometer reads.
    But I actually really enjoy winter and all the fun seasonal activities it brings. Every year, I can't wait for the ice skating rinks and outdoor skating trails to open up. I spend hours every weekend gliding around on the ice, drinking hot cocoa, and having snowball fights with my friends when dustings of snow blanket the city. The city does a great job clearing snow quickly, but there's something magical about those peaceful periods after a fresh snowfall before the plows have arrived.
