23年高考英语外刊阅读训练——阅读理解:享受使心情愉悦的美食
——改编自Enjoy food that makes you happy
As we experience long, cold winters, we are sometimes tempted to indulge in filling and fattening foods. This is often due to the need for energy and warmth as well as a desire to feel happier. These types of food are considered “comfort food” as they provide a brief period of enjoyment.
Each individual has their own preference of comfort food depending on their palate and personal associations. However, biscuits are likely to be the most commonly consumed snack because they trigger happy childhood memories and provide a sugary pick-me-up.
Mary Berry, a renowned chef and food author, explains that during the winter, people naturally gravitate towards comfort food. Her suggestions for winter comfort food includes soup and other warming dishes.
One reason why comfort food is so desirable is because it is easy to make. Dishes such as mac and cheese, noodles, and pizza are simple to prepare, which provides a quick fix of feel-good food. However, we tend to overindulge and eat large portions, despite the fact that these ingredients are often high in carbohydrates, sugar, or salt. Psychologist Shira Gabriel suggests that our minds find a way to produce positive emotions when consuming these foods.
Although indulging in comfort food may offer brief periods of happiness, it is essential to recognize the impact of excessive consumption on overall health and well-being.
