    Winter in My Hometown Harbin
    Winter is my favorite season of the year because that's when the real fun begins in my hometown Harbin! Harbin is the capital city of Heilongjiang Province in the very northeast of China. It's known as the Ice City because of its bitterly cold winters and all the amazing ice and snow festivals.
    As soon as the first snowflakes start falling in late November, you can feel the excitement building. Everybody gets ready for months of frozen fun! The parks fill up with kids zooming down sledding hills and ice skating on frozen lakes and ponds. We bundle up in our warmest coats, scarves, hats and mittens to play outside for hours until our cheeks are bright red and our noses are runny icicles!
    One of the best things about a Harbin winter is all the delicious hot foods you can eat to stay warm. My favorite is the crispy fried dough sticks sold by street vendors, dipped in a sweet sauce. There's also hot soups like lamb ramensand spicy stews to warm you up from the inside out.

    Winter in My Hometown Harbin
    Wow, winter in my hometown Harbin is really cool! Literally, it's very cold but also really fun. Harbin is the capital city of Heilongjiang Province way up in northeast China. It gets freezing cold here for months on end.
    The winter chill starts settling in around late October. The trees become bare and the ground gets that first dusting of snow. By November, you can't go outside without a huge thick coat, hat, scarf, gloves and boots. The snow piles up deeper and deeper until it's over a meter high in some places!
    I love sledding down the big hills in the parks near my home. You can go so fast! Sometimes my sled jumps over bumps and I feel like I'm flying through the air for a second. But you have to be careful not to crash into anything. One time my friend Billy ran right into a snowman and got all dazed and covered in snow. It was for me at least!
    The ice is perfect for skating too. There are outdoor skating rinks all over the city. I'm still learning but the experienced skaters can do incredible jumps and spins. My favorites are the ice skaters who perform in the amazing ice sculpture shows. I'll tell you more about those later.
    When it gets darkest and coldest in the depths of winter, usually in January, the temperature can drop below -30°C! That's when you don't even want to breat

    Harbin is the capital city of Heilongjiang Province in the very northeast of China. It's not too far from the Russian border. Because it's so far north, the winters are long and intense. From late November until early March, everything is blanketed in thick layers of snow and ice.
    The snow starts gently drifting down in late autumn. At first, it's just light flurries that quickly melt away. But soon, the flakes get bigger and heavier. By December, the city is totally transformed into a winter wonderland! Sidewalks, roads, trees, buildings - everything is covered in brilliant white powder. The snow piles up higher and higher until it towers over my head!
    When I wake up and look outside on a snowy morning, the whole world looks brand new. The fresh snow gleams and glistens in the sunlight. The snowflakes are like billions of tiny mirrors reflecting the daylight. Every surface is smoothed over into soft, curved shapes by t
he snow's thick coat. It's so quiet and peaceful outside, like the snow is nature's fluffy white muffler keeping everything hushed.
    That peaceful quiet doesn't last long though! Pretty soon, kids like me are bundled up in our warmest clothes and trekking outside to play. Harbin is every kid's dream winter playground! We have epic snowball fights, making ammunition from the light, powdery snow. We go sledding down the biggest hills we can find, squealing with joy as we go slipping and sliding at full speed. And of course, we spend hours shaping the snow into all kinds of cool structures like snowmen, snow forts, and snow sculptures.
    Nighttime in winter is extra magical too. The darkness makes all the snow emit a pale blue glow, reflecting the city lights. Icicles hanging from rooftops shimmer like crystals. The moonlight adds a golden sparkle to the fresh white drifts. And if we're really lucky, we might even see the night sky put on a show with shimmering auroras dancing in greens, pinks, and violets!
    One of my absolute favorite winter activities is visiting the amazing Ice and Snow World i
n Harbin. It's like something straight out of a fairytale frozen kingdom! The best ice sculptors from all over China and the world come to Harbin. They use harvested ice chunks from the frozen Songhua River to create the most breathtaking works of art and architecture.
    There are glittering ice palaces that look like they're from the dreams of royal princes and princesses. Towering ice buildings reaching taller than the trees! Enormous intricate ice sculptures depicting animals, plants, famous people and scenes from stories. You could spend all day wandering through the glittering wonderland and still not see it all.
