(1)As the saying goes, “A father is a treasure, a brother is a comfort, but a friend is both.” I am so fortunate to have found my good friend, and I still remember how I built up my friendship with Zhang.
We became friends soon after we entered the senior high school. We played together, went to KTV and shared our meals sometimes --- just the way as other friends do. We kept our ordinary friendship for quite a long time until that day when I broke my leg while playing basketball. He called the teacher in no time and even gave up his lessons and accompanied me to hospital. He didn’t stop helping me until I fully recovered. At that time, I knew I got a true friend.
A good and true friend is a treasure that you can find pleasure in and a comfort that you can turn to when in trouble. Finding a good and true friend is no easy task. But as long as you reach your hands out, grasp it and hold it firm, you are sure to have a faithful friend who can share your joys and sorrows like Zhang and me. Go find your friend and c
herish your friendship to enjoy our life.
(2) When I was in junior high school, Zhang was not a good choice to make friends with because he had dark skin and looked ugly. I didn’t play with him, didn’t talk to him and even walked away when he approached me. However, one afternoon, when I was stopped by several tough guys and threatened to give them money, it was Zhang who stood out, shouted loudly and drove them away. I was very grateful at that time and began to notice him closely.
Of course, we made friends at last. In addition to that brave move, I found out more merits in him under the dark skin and ugly face. Thanks to Zhang’s being my friend, I learned a lesson earlier than others: one can never judge a person from his appearance. Flaw in appearance as a man might have, it doesn’t mean he has mean inner quality. On the contrary, most of the time he will try his best to be even more warm-hearted to balance the loss of the beauty. If we simply ignore these people, we’ll lose a lot of good friends.
Furthermore, not only people but everything follows this golden rule. The appearance is always misleading; we must discover the truth underneath and discard those superficial glamour or plainness.
(Where there is a will, there is a way.)
What will you do when you meet with some troubles which seem to be impossible to be solved? Maybe you will give up. But I believe a Chinese saying “Where there is a will, there is a way.”
As is known to all, Beethoven is regarded as one of the most famous musicians in history. We know that he became deaf in his late years, which was a great setback to his music career. Though he could not hear any rhythm, he did not give up composing his music. With his strong willpower against his own fate, he produced world famous Symphonies like No. 5 “Fate” and No. 9 “Ode to Joy”.
We are healthy and we can do anything freely. So as long as we are strong-willed, difficulty can not defeat us. With Beethoven as our brilliant example, impossible is nothing in our world. We are sure to succeed in the end.
(Haste makes waste.)
Well goes the old saying, “Haste makes waste.” Quite often we are so eager to achieve a goal that we don’t take the time to prepare for it properly. As a result, we failed to reach the goal as expected.
I can easily remember being in this situation several years ago. I had an important test to study for, but I felt that spending time with my friends was much more fun. I ended up cramming for the test by staying up all night long. The next day, I was so tired that I fell asleep during the test. As you can tell, I failed the test.
Ever since then, I have learned that doing things slowly but cautiously is much more important than doing things in haste but carelessly.
(No pains, no gains.)
It is obvious to everybody that the only way to achieve one's goal is to work hard. Just as the old saying goes "no mill, no meal". Have you ever seen a man who succeeds just by idling about? Of course, the answer is "No". So, if you want to gain something, you will have pains.
The farmers harvest by a year of arduous work; the scientists make achievements by years of devoted researches; students get good marks by working hard; even the little ants have their food by working hard day and night. I know there are always some people who wait for the opportunities falling on them. They may attribute their failures to lack of good chances. Therefore, there are so many people who get nowhere at last. Clever men know that the more effort they make, the bigger chance they will have to be successful.
