8.Our Family Creed 家族的信条
1. They are the principles【n.原理；原则；主义；信念】 on which my wife and I have tried to bring up our family. They are the principles in which my father believed and by which he governed【v.统治；支配；管理；规定；控制】his life. They are the principles , many of them ,which I learned at my mother's knee.
1、这些是我和我太太在教育子女的时候所尽力倚仗的信条，这些是我父亲所深信并以之为人生律条的信条，这些信条中的大部分是我从母亲的膝下秉承而来的。
2. They point the way to usefulness and happiness in life,to courage【n.勇气；胆量】 and peace in death.

7. I believe that the law was made for man and not man for the law; that government is the servant of the people and not their master.

13. I believe in an all-wise and all-loving God, named by whatever name, and that the individual's highest fulfillment, greatest happiness, and widest usefulness are to be found in living in harmony with his will.

14. I believe that love is the greatest thing in the world; that it alone can overcome hate; that right can and will triumph【n.凯旋；成就；胜利；欢欣；vi.战胜；庆祝胜利】 over might.
