本课对象为我校高一年级理科班学生,他们学习英语的动机强,学习热情高,对于节日与庆祝这一主题有了初步的认识,且具有一定的阅读理解能力,奈何基础薄弱,缺乏对文本的深层理解与整体分析能力。因此,本课旨在引导学生在本课的学习中结合文本特点快速而准确地到主题句,梳理、分析和提炼不同国家、不同民族节日的精神内涵,理解世界各国人民共同的情感和精神追求,提升学生的写作水平。

文章标题为Why do we celebrate festivals?(我们为何庆祝节日),分为五个段落,大意分别为:1.节日是全世界普遍存在的文化现象; 2. 收获的节日存在于每一种文化当中; 3. 全世界节日的习俗都正在发生改变; 4. 节日变得越来越商业化; 5. 节日是全世界人民社会生活的重要组成部分。在对段落大意归纳的基础之上,还需读者仔细揣摩、提炼和推理作者隐藏在字里行间对这一问题的深层阐释和观点,并与之产生情感上的共鸣和观念上的碰撞。
文章标题Why do we celebrate festivals?中关键词why celebrate,和we值得关注探讨。本环节还提供了两张插图,一张与中秋节有关,图中月光下的月饼,花灯和茶营造了赏月的情景;另一张与母亲节有关,图中的礼物,康乃馨和卡片营造了一片温馨的感恩气氛。这些为学生探索节日的起源,习俗以及意义提供了丰富的视角,也为学生提供了深入理解文本提供了多种途径。

2. Show some pictures of festivals home and abroad and lead students to have a free talk.

本活动旨在落实课时目标1,本环节由三部分组成,首先用一段短视频激活相关背景知识并就常见节日与庆祝方式展开Free talk,要求学生联系实际,紧扣与家人和朋友庆祝节日时的what, how和why,洞察不同人物关系庆祝方式的差异,尤其是最后的问题Why do you think people celebrate different festivals? 为主题语篇阅读预设答案,学生可以在文本阅读中完善对于节日的现有认知。接下来正式引入本课主题Why do we celebrate festivals?并展示本节课要达成的目标及重点。第二个环节是对课文内容进行预测并辨别文章体裁,这一环节旨在引导学生利用标题与插图辅助阅读。

Activity1: Read for the main idea of each paragraph.
本活动旨在落实课时目标2。本环节首先让学生运用通读和寻读等阅读策略,让学生快理清文章结构。先展示主题句特点,即一般的段落由主旨句和支撑的细节组成,且主旨句常位于段首。这一环节旨在培养学生关注段落结构并提取句子关键词的能力。为后面的细节阅读做好铺垫。

本活动旨在落实课时目标3
第一个环节是判断全文结构。第二环节是阅读并回答相关问题,这些问题既包含事实细节题,又有观点态度题,还有推理判断题。最后用希沃白板中的思维导图来组织课堂活动,核对答案并梳理文章结构。这一步也为复述做准备。
针对第三段与第五段设计了两个任务。第三段设计了比较和反思fading away festival和new festivals,引导学生对customs消失或产生以及背后的reasons进行探究,为他们输出提供了表达语料。从情感过渡到态度,由事实判断过渡到价值判断,也就是Customs can change but values should stay the same.
讨论第三段与第五段段落结构,让学生熟悉parallel construction。
