第一课时: New words and phrases
Teaching and Learning Goals:
一、语言知识和语言技能:
1. 能争取使用下列词汇(Curriculum words)
litter, bottom, fisherman, coal, ugly, advantage, cost, wooden, plastic, cruel, harmful, industry, law, scientific, afford, recycle, gate, bottle, president, work, metal
2.争取在具体情景下学会使用下列常用单词或短语进行英语表达。(Useful expressions)

3. 依据读音规则、构词规律理解和记忆词汇。(Understand and remember the words and phrases according to phonetic rules, the structures of the words and phrases.)
4. 基于同伴互助的方式学习词汇,并运用新学词汇与同伴交流。(Learn and express with the new words in groups.)
三、情感态度:
通过对本单元有关环保词汇的学习唤醒学生对人类生活所造成的环境污染严重性认识; 促进学生对保护环境的使命感形成; 促进学生对洁净生活环境的向往,培养学生的地球大同主义价值观――人与自然生息与共。
Teaching and learning steps
Step 1. Warming up and leading in
T:Ok, boys and girls !Here are some pictures, can you use some words to describe them?
S1: The sky is very blue and beautiful.
S2:The water is very clean and we can see some little stones and fish in the river.
S3:The mountains are very green.
S4The air is very fresh.
T: Well, you did very well. It’s very beautiful and we all like it ,right?
Ss: Yes.
Let’s look at another group of pictures, what do you think of them?
S1: The water is very dirty.
S2:The air is polluted.
S3:Many trees are cut down.
S4:We can see lots of fish and birds died because of pollution.
T:Can you tell me who caused this?
Ss: Human beings.
T:What should we do to bring back green hills and clean water?
Ss:…
T: Today we’ll learn some words about environmental protection.Now let’s learn the words and phrases of Unit 13. Open your books to Page 168.
Look at the new words and phrases in this unit.
Step 2 Learn to read the words on P97-102
1. Ask the students to read the words by themselves using the phonetics, underline the difficult words.
2. Encourage the students to read the difficult words with their partners.
3. Get two or three middle-level students to read all the words, the others listen and correct their mistakes in pronunciation. If necessary, the teacher helps them.
4. Read after the tape, imitate the pronunciation.
5.The students read aloud to memorize the words. (The teacher walks around to see whether students have any questions. )
(设计意图:本环节通过学生自读—组内互读—朗读纠错—磁带跟读,达到正确熟练朗读本单元生词。音标学单词是学生学习英语的必备能力,所以要重点强调学生自读环节。在教学中要继续让学生试读单词,巩固和提高学生自学单词的能力,培养学生良好的学习习惯。首先学生自己根据音标字读单词,并标出试读难点。接着组内读给同伴听,解决遇到的发音问题。然后教师检查学生朗读,及时纠正错音。最后让学生跟录音读。单词的学习坚持从个体—同伴—小组—整体的原则,培养学生自主学习和小组互助学习的能力,以保证所有学生都能熟练读出单词,语音纯正,发音准确。)
Step 3 Learn the new words
一.Remember the words by guessing the meaning of pictures.
T: Most of you read them well. Now let’s look at some pictures to learn some of the words.
litter n./v. bins
T: When you have some litter, what should you do?
Ss:We should put it in the bins. We should not litter it anywhere.
T:Yes. And we should put the reusable things into the recyclable bins.
fisherman n.
T: Fishermen wordsmake a living by catching fish. But now there are no more fish for fishermen to catch. Why?
Ss: Because of pollution or many other reasons.
coal n.
Coal is called black gold.
The factories that burn coal pollute the air with a lot of black smoke.
takeaway n. wooden chopsticks plastic spoons
T:In our daily lives ,people often buy takeaway food. What do you usually do when you buy?
S1: I usually take wooden chopsticks ,they are convenient.
S2:…
T: But I never take wooden chopsticks or plastic spoons. I use the ones at home. I think it’s good for the environment. Do you think so?
Ss: Yes.
shark n. cut off shark fin
T: In the first picture, the shark lives happily in the ocean,but in the second picture, sharks are cut off their fins. Can sharks live without fins?
Ss: No.
T:Yes. They can’t swim and catch food. They will die slowly. What do you think of this action?
