Hutong is one of the symbols of Beijing culture. Long time ago, Beijing was composed of hundreds of countyards around the Forbidden City. Between the courtyards were many lanes. Later these lanes stretched in all directions and developed into Hutongs. These Hutongs have their own structures and layouts, which are like a chess board when viewed from the air. These are complete living facilities in the Hutongs, like in many communities. The local residents read newspapers, drink tea, and chat here, leading a common family life and doing all kinds of businesses. Currently, these Hutongs have become the place that tourists must go to when travelling in Beijing.
