The following sections list the minimum hardware and software requirements for running Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Note: the requirements for running SQL Server 2005 on the 32 bit platform and on the 64 bit platform are different.

Monitor
The SQL Server graphics tool requires VGA or higher resolution: the resolution is at least 1024x768 pixels.
Pointer device
Microsoft mouse or compatible pointer device is required.
CD or DVD drive
A corresponding CD or DVD drive is required for installation via CD or DVD media.
Cluster hardware requirements
On the 32 and 64 bit platforms, support for the 8 node cluster installation (i.e., the maximum number of nodes supported by Microsoft Windows Server 2003). Network software requires network software requirements
The 64 bit version of SQL Server 2005 requires the same network software as the 32 bit version of the network software. Windows 2003, Windows, XP, and Windows 2000 have built-in network software. Note: Note: SQL Server 2005 does not support the Banyan VINES sequential packet protocol (SPP), multiprotocol, AppleTalk or NWLink IPX/SPX network protocols. Clients that previously used these protocol connections must select other protocols to connect to SQL Server 2005. Internet requirements
The 32 bit version of SQL Server 2005 is the same as the 64 bit version of Internet.
