一、Key words: 
1. number  n.数字       Choose a number between ten and one hundred.           
        v. 给...编号    Number the pages from one to ten. 
【辨析】常考短语：a number of   &   the number of 
a number of    “若干”或“许多”， a small/large number of少量；大量                                   
                          There are a number of ants on the ground. 
The number of   “...的数量”，  The number of the apples is 40. 
注意：虽然两个短语后面都接复数名词，但是 
a number of..    作主语时，谓语动词要用复数    e.g. A number of students are playing.   
the number&   作主语时，谓语动词要用单数  e.g. The number of the students is 50. 
2. check    v.检查，核实   Please check your answers after finish doing homework. 
check in ： 在旅馆登记住宿；报到；签到 
The friends we had invited did not check in until Saturday．
我们邀请的朋友直到星期六才到达。         
check out： 结帐离开 
Guests must check out before noon, or they will be charged for the day. 
客人必须在中午前结帐离开，否则将付全日费用。 
3. wise     adj.充满智慧的   a wise old man 一位博学多识的老先生    wisdom   n. 才能，智慧 
                                近义词：clever/ bright/ intelligent 
【知识拓展】
It is wise of sb. to do sth. 你做了..., 真是太明智了。（wise形容人品，of sb.） 
 eg: It is wise of you to accept my advice. 
你接受了我的建议，真是太明智了。 
拓展句型：It is important for you to take care of yourself. （important形容事情本身， for sb.） 
4. challenge  v.向...挑战  
 短语：challenge sb. to sth        
The boxer challenged the world champion to a fight.     拳击手向世界冠军挑战。
challenge  n[c]挑战   
Climbing the mountain will be a real challenge.      爬山将是一个真正的挑战。

5. promise v. 许诺，承诺

promise sb sth 答应某人某事

make a promise  许下诺言      keep a promise   遵守诺言   
break a promise  违背诺言 
6. amount  n.数量，数额 
 a large(great) amount of +不可数名词：大量的... 
They spent a large amount of money building the house. 
他们花了大量的钱去建房子。
7. instead  adv. 代替，顶替。位于句子的开头时，多用逗号与句子的主体部分隔开。位于句子的结尾时，不用逗号与句子的主体部分隔开。 
  He is too busy, let me go instead.   他太忙了,让我去吧。

短语：instead of 代替，而不是。后接宾语。
Instead of eating out, why not call some friends and have a picnic?
为什么不叫一朋友去野餐来代替一个人外出聚餐呢？
8. one day   有一天；某一天   
 【辨析】one day   VS.    some day                                         
one day可表示过去的某一天或是将来的某一天；但 some day只能表示将来的某一天。 
【活学活练】
(1) You will be sorry for this some day.   总有一天你会后悔这件事的。
(2) One day I found out why.           有一天我发现了为什么。
9. rest      n. 休息    Let’s have a rest.        让我们休息一下。     
        v. 休息    We will rest for half an hour.    我们将休息半个小时。     
        n. 剩余部分  
This morning Daisy ate some bread and kept the rest for tomorrow. 
今天早上黛西吃了一些面包，并且把剩下的留到明天吃。 
【知识拓展】
the rest “其余部分”，可指代可数名词或不可数名词，作主语时，谓语根据rest 所代指的名词来决定。 
the rest&  “其余的...” ,of后可接可数名词或不可数名词, 作主语时，谓语根据of后所接的名词来决定。 
The rest of the money is yours.   其余的钱是你的。
10. talk  v. 谈话；讨论

talk about sth   谈论„ 
 talk to   与„交谈（侧重于一方讲一方听）weight可不可数         talk with   与„交谈；聊天（双方交谈）

Stephanie wanted to  talk to  Jimson tonight, so they talked with each other until 12 o’clock. They talked about how to help Jimson to gain weight. 
斯蒂芬妮今晚想要和吉姆森谈一谈, 所以他们一直聊到12 点。他们谈论了如何帮助 Jimson减肥。 
11. advice     n. 建议（不可数名词）  a piece of advice   一则建议     
advise   v. 建议；作动词时，后可接名词、代词或doing作宾语，也可用于advise sb. (not) to  do sth.,  表示“建议某人（不）做某事” 
Liz advised Tom to stop drinking so much.  利兹建议汤姆不要喝那么多酒。   
12. agree    同意      
  agree with sb.   同意某人 
  agree to do   同意做某事 
--- Do you agree with me, Annabella? 
--- Sorry. I am afraid that I can’t agree to do that. 
 --- 你同意我的看法吗？ 
--- 很抱歉。恐怕我不能同意这样做。 
13. enough  adj.“足够的” 修饰名词时，放在名词的前后均可。         
  I have enough money to buy this coat.   我有足够的钱去买这个外套。
  adv. “足够地，充分” 修饰形容词或其他副词， 只能放在形容词或副词后面。         
The book is easy enough for you to read.     这本书对你而言很容易读懂。
Enough常考句型题： 
My brother is too young to go to school. 
=My brother isn’t old enough to go to school.
14. from then on “从那时起” , 用于完成时和过去时                         
He lived here from then on.   从那时起他就住在这里。
【知识拓展】
from now on “从今以后”, 常用于现在时和将来时，一般不能用与过去时。
 I’ll take the place of Miss Liang from now on.   从今以后我会取代梁小的位置。
