摘要:The invention relates to a method for encoding symbols from a sequence of digitized images (I), the images (I) being divided into image regions (MB) and the symbols (S) of a particular image region (MB) being encoded by means of entropy encoding, which is based on one or more probability models, the probability model(s) taking the frequencies of symbols (S) occurring in image regions (MB) into account. In the method according to the invention, the image regions (MB) are processed in encoding cycles (CC, CC1, CC2,... CC5) such that during an encoding cycle (CC, CC1, CC2,... CC5) the entropy encoding process is carried out in a plurality of parallel encoding branches (1, 2, 3), wherein in each encoding branch (1, 2, 3) an image region (MB) is encoded on the basis of a set of probability models, and wherein the frequencies for the set of probability models during encoding of the image region are adapted on the basis of the symbols (S) occurring in the image region (MB). The set of probability models used in each encoding branch (1, 2, 3) for encoding is based on a common set of probability models that is valid for all encoding branches (1, 2, 3), which set takes into account the frequencies of symbols (S) in the image regions (MB) of all encoding branches (1, 2, 3).
