To Kill a Mockingbird
—— Hmockingbird歌词英文arper Lee
Mockingbird is a kind of bird who only sing for human, never do harmful things. I think this bird in this story stand for the kind, innocent and heart of justice of Atticus, a widowed lawyer, who brought up his two children. There are two main lines in the story, one is Robinson, a willing to help other and warm heart black youth, was framed to rape a white lady, despite of the main trend of discrimination black, even the judge discriminates so, Atticus and his two children still defend for the black, the pity is that the black still die in the prison; the second one is their neighbor, who hasn’t walk out of his house about ten years, because the people outside recent his mental illness, he is forced to stay inside. These two main characters all are victims because the society that time do not accept their “differences”. They are the mockingbird in the society, who never do harm to the society, but still die of the people’s hand. To kill them is their solution, and the Atticus, who stands for the justice people at that time, despite the persecution, they still use their small power to help that two mockingbirds.
This book not only talks about the two conflicts, it also talks about the growing process of Atticus’s two children, with describing the process, it describes the vivid life in the south, it interspersed with many contradictions: black to white, extremely poor class and bourgeoisie, open-minded people and conservative people, zombie education system and children’s nature of chasing after freedom, mainstream society and marginal people, feminism and Patriarchal…
It reminds me of a word I have learnt from a Korean movie: we walk and fight all along, not to change this world and make something big, is not to be changed by this big world. How can a upside down society be called as a great time? What is the meaning of mockingbird? And can I live in a society where mockingbirds can sing aloud freely? Scout’s uncle, jack, once said a meaningful sentence: Prejudice, a dirty word, and faith, a clean one, have something in common: they both begin where reason ends. It’s really heartbreak to see Atticus cry for Robinson and blame on himself of not saving him back, it’s really sad to see Scout standing in front of Boo’s house and thinking all the time when Boo secretly watch they play outside. Wish this world can have more mockingbirds, and wish we can protect th
em forever.
