Page 2  PREFACE  1. Delete  the second paragraph commencing ‘This Standard was revised…’ and substitute  the following:
‘This Standard was revised in 2001 to allow for the introduction of requirements for
MEPS 2004 that were to apply from 1 October 2004. The changes to the MEPS
requirements will now not apply in Australia until 1 January 2005. Consequently,
references to MEPS 2004 throughout this Standard and AS/NZS 4474.1 have been
changed to MEPS 2005. The regulatory dates for New Zealand may be different;
actual dates are announced by gazette notice (refer also to Clause 1.1). This Standard
contains requirements for both MEPS 1999 and MEPS 2005.’
2. In the third paragraph commencing ‘Where requirements differ…’ delete  the three
references to ‘MEPS 2004’ and substitute  ‘MEPS 2005’.
3. Delete  the fourth paragraph commencing ‘The new MEPS 2004…’ and substitute  the
following:
‘The new MEPS 2005 levels were developed and agreed by industry and government
representatives during 2000 and are to be introduced in Australia on 1 January 2005,
and in New Zealand on a date yet to be announced (refer also to Clause 1.1). Until 31
December 2004 in Australia, and a date to be announced in New Zealand, it is
anticipated that regulatory authorities will accept testing of appliances to either
MEPS 1999 requirements or MEPS 2005 requirements. All appliances within the
scope of MEPS, manufactured or imported for sale in Australia on or after 1 January
2005, or in New Zealand on or after a date to be announced, shall meet the MEPS
2005 requirements. In addition, at the time of sale in Australia, such appliances shall
hold a valid registration which indicates compliance with the relevant MEPS
requirements.’
4. In the ninth paragraph commencing ‘ The energy label design…’ delete the reference
to ‘MEPS 2004’ and substitute ‘MEPS 2005’. This Amendment applies from date of publication.

Page 20  Clause 4.1.4 Delete the existing two paragraphs and substitute the following: ‘Products that comply with the MEPS 2005 requirements of this Standard, when
tested to the MEPS 2005 requirements of AS/NZS 4474.1, may be registered to those
requirements prior to 1 January 2005. Otherwise products shall be registered to the
MEPS 1999 requirements. (Refer also to Clause 1.2).
All appliances within the scope of MEPS, manufactured or imported for sale in
Australia on or after 1 January 2005 shall meet the MEPS 2005 requirements and, at
the time of sale, such appliances shall hold a valid registration which indicates
compliance with the relevant MEPS requirements. For such appliances, the date of
manufacture of each appliance shall be able to be determined from information
legibly and durably marked on the appliance. The date of manufacture may be non-
encrypted, encrypted or able to be determined from a serial number or other markings
on the appliance and shall be visible when the appliance is in its position of normal
use. Information on how to determine the date of manufacture shall be provided on
the registration form (see Appendix E).
NOTES:
1 Regulators will use the date of manufacture as a guide as to when a product may have
been available for sale in Australia. It is therefore preferable to be able to determine at
least the month and year of manufacture from information on the appliance. This does not
however preclude the use of other markings, for example serial numbers, which indicate
those appliances manufactured within a period of time, with such details given on the
registration form.
2 Irrespective of the information marked on the appliance, local manufacturers or importers
may be required to provide evidence of the actual manufactured or imported date if
requested by a regulator.
This Amendment applies from date of publication.
