巴什拉的《空间的诗学》一书，写在他的“元素精神分析学”系列之后，“巴什拉在对想象力进行精神分析学研究时发现，在诗歌想象的领域中，人抛弃对世界的认识论态度或实用态度，从而遇见无知最原始的形象，即元素的形象。”(《空间的诗学》中译本引言第4页译者注)而在整本书中，作者却使用了三种体系的标准，现象学、精神分析学、心理学，并说明在本书中其重要性依次递减。作者所做的是从现象学角度研究一些最初的形象:“我们想要研究的实际上是很简单的形象，那就是幸福空间的形象。在这个方向上，我们的探索可以称作场所爱好。我们的探索目标是确定所拥有的空间的人性价值，所拥有的空间就是抵御敌对力量的空间，受人喜爱的空间”。(《空间的诗学》中译本引言第23页)值得注意的是，这种幸福是孤独的，受庇护的，是一种蜷缩着的幸福，内心的，而不是其它种种。“在体验一个形象的时候，我们认可了孤独。”(《空间的诗学》中译本第133页)
