hesitate to do sth.迟疑做某事,不愿做某事

2.appeal vi.有吸引力;呼吁;诉诸;上诉
appeal to sb.(for sth.)(为某事)向某人恳求、求助
appeal to sb.对某人有吸引力;使某人感兴趣
appeal against sth.上诉
appeal 用作名词,通常与 to 或 for 连用;用作动词,通常与 to 或 against 连用。

5.amount vi.合计,总计达;相当于
amount to sth.总共达;相当于
a large amount of/amounts of大量,许多
the ……的数量
a large/small amount of后接不可数名词表示“大量/少量的”,作主语时谓语动词用单数,也可以用“amounts of+不可数名词”表示“大量的”,作主语时谓语动词用复数。
6.break out (战争、火灾等)爆发
break down出故障,坏掉;垮掉
break in破门而入;打断(谈话等)
break into强行闯入;突然……起来
break away from脱离;逃离
break off中断;折断;突然停止
break through突破;克服
My car broke down,and I was stuck by the highway for an hour before someone stopped to help.
我的车抛锚了,我在公路上等了一个小时才有人停下来帮忙。
7.split vi.& vt.分割,使(分开);撕开,割破
split up分组,分解;分离,分开
split (up)...(把……)分成……
split sth. between在……之间分配、分摊
John has just split up with his girlfriend.

Profits will be split between three major charities.
利润将在3个主要慈善机构之间分配。
8.inform vt.通知,告知
inform sb.of/about sth.通知某人某事
inform 通知某人……
keep sb.informed of随时向某人报告……,使某人随时了解……
information n.[U]通知;消息;情报;信息
Please inform us of any change of address as soon as possible.
地址如有变更请尽快通知我们。

react to对……做出反应
react on/upon对……有影响
react against反对
react with同……起反应
reaction n.反应

in response to作为对……的反应
