other than 的⽤法

other than 有两个基本意思：
A）“不同于” 相当于 different from;  “并⾮”表⽰否定意义。
B）“除……之外”,  表⽰排除意义, 相当于except ；
A.  other than  “不同于”“并⾮”, 表⽰这⼀意思时，other than组成的短语
在句中可作表语或定语。
1）The truth is quite other than what you think.
事实真相和你想的完全不同。
2）Certainly, my associates and pursuits shall be other than they have been.
当然，现在我所来往的⼈，我所追求的事物，将和以前不同。
3）Here is a IC card other than yours.
这⾥有⼀张的 IC 卡，不是你的。（原意为：这⾥有⼀张不同于你的IC 卡）
4）Reactions other than the desired one often occur when the reactants are brought together.
当这些反应物放在⼀起时，常发⽣不希望有的⼀些反应。（原意为：当这些反应物放在⼀起时，常发⽣与希望有的反应不同的反应。）
B.  other than    ⽤于表⽰“除……之外”，相当于except。其⽤法分述如下：
u  other than  置于名词之后，表⽰“除……之外，其他都……”的意思。此时，other than 组成的短语在句中作定语，修饰前⾯的名词。
1）The presence of elements other than iron will greatly affect the physical properties of steel.
除铁以外的其它元素的存在将⼤⼤影响钢的物理性质。
2）Cruises other than the ones listed below are not discounted at this time.
在这段期间，除下列所列的邮轮外，其他邮轮都不打折。
3）There are similar charges if you want to cash a cheque at a branch other than your own.
如果你想在开户⾏以外的⽹点兑现⽀票，都要收取类似的费⽤。
4）He said there was no reason why companies other than Boeing and Airbus could not enter the business.
他表⽰说，除了波⾳和空客以外其它航空公司都不能进⼊这⼀业务领域是没有理由的。
5）Under some conditions chemical energy is liberated during a chemical reaction in forms other than heat.
在某些条件下，在化学反应期间，化学能还能以除了热能以外的其它形式释放出来。u  other than  位于anything、nothing、something、anybody、anyone 等不
定代词的后⾯，此时 other than 组成的短语在句中作定语，修饰前⾯的不定代词。1）The agreement cannot be signed by anyone other than yourself.
除你本⼈之外，别⼈都不能签署这项协议。
2）The journey by road to Wolverhampton is not recommended to anyone other than the most experienced cyclist.
除了经验⾮常丰富的⾃⾏车⼿外，建议其他⼈不要⾛去伍尔弗汉普顿的那条道。3）None other than yourself can help you to solve the problem.
在这个问题上，除了⾃⼰没有⼈能帮得了你。
4）The lawyer seldom wears anything other than a suit whatever the season.
⽆论什么季节，律师除了穿套装外，很少穿其他⾐服。
5）But anything other than a straight in-or-out question may result in a damaging wrangle.
但除了直截了当的去留问题之外，任何其他问题都可能导致有破坏性的争吵。

u  other than 组成的短语在句中⽤作状语，可位于句⾸或句尾。此时相当于 except、except for ⽤法。
1）Other than that the nearest store was five miles away, it was a perfect location.
除了最近的商店在五英⾥外，这⾥的地理位置好极了。
2）She declined to comment further other than to say that charges had not been brought.
除了说检察官还没有提起诉讼外，她拒绝进⼀步评论。
3）She was numb to all issues other than the one which is concerned about her own interests.
除了与⾃⼰利益有关的问题外, 她对其他什么问题都漠不关⼼。
react to的意思4）I volunteer because I love my city and I need to give back something to it other than tax dollars.
我去做志愿者是因为我热爱我的城市，除了交税我还需要偿还它⼀些其他的东西。u  other than  常⽤⽤于否定句，表⽰“除……之外，⽆（没有）……”的意思。
1）Other than one sister, she has no close relatives.
除了有⼀个，她没有其他亲戚。
2）She has never been to a big city other than Chicago.
除芝加哥外她没有去过别的⼤城市.
3）Other than Mr. Connelly, none of this group was injured in the accident.
除康纳利先先⽣外, 其它⼈在这次事故中都未受伤。
4）It is relative insensitivity to other than red and infrared lights.
除了对红光, 红外线光外，它对其它光相对来说都是不敏感的。
5）I hadn't done any car maintenance other than blowing up a tire.
除了给轮胎充⽓外，我没做过任何汽车保养。
u  other than 后接指⽰代词 that，表⽰“ 除此之外”的意思。that  指代前⾯句中所述内容。
1）We’re going away in June but other than that I’ll be here allsummer.
六⽉份我们要离开这⾥，但除此之外，整个夏天我都会在这⾥。
2）His ribs were damaged, but other than that he's in good nick.
他的肋⾻受了损伤，但除此之外⼀切都还好。
3）After I exercised, my feet felt a little better, but other than that, there was no much difference " she said.
