My Friend Xiao Li and the School Bullies
My name is Xiao Ming, and I'm in fifth grade at Sunshine Elementary School. I have a best friend named Xiao Li who has been getting bullied by some mean kids in our class. It all started a few months ago when Xiao Li got a new haircut. A group of boys started teasing him and calling him names like "mushroom head" because of his short hair. At first, Xiao Li just ignored them, but the bullying kept getting worse.
The bullies would knock Xiao Li's books out of his hands in the hallway and trip him in the cafeteria. Sometimes they would even grab his backpack and throw it around like a game. Xiao Li seemed really sad all the time and didn't want to go to school anymore. He stopped raising his hand in class and didn't play with me or our other friends at recess. I felt awful see
ing my best friend so upset.
One day during lunch, I saw the bullies crowding around Xiao Li in the corner of the cafeteria. They were poking him and laughing at him while he stared down at the ground. I had had enough – I knew I needed to do something to stop the bullying once and for all. I marched right over and got between Xiao Li and the bullies.
"Hey! Leave my friend alone!" I shouted at them. The bullies looked surprised that I had confronted them.
react to do    "Mind your own business, Xiao Ming," one of them sneered. "We're just having some fun with mushroom head here."
"No you're not, you're bullying him!" I yelled back. "If you don't stop picking on Xiao Li right now, I'm telling the principal!"
The bullies glared at me but ultimately backed off, muttering insults under their breath as they slinked away. I turned to Xiao Li, who had started crying. He hugged me tightly.
"Thanks for sticking up for me, Xiao Ming," he said through his tears. "You're a true friend."
From then on, I made a point of always staying by Xiao Li's side to protect him from the bullies. If they so much as looked at him the wrong way, I would give them an intimidating stare to make them back off. Whenever the bullies tried to taunt Xiao Li, I would change the subject or make a joke to distract them. Slowly but surely, the bullies realized it wasn't worth the effort to keep targeting Xiao Li if I was going to interfere every time.
I also encouraged Xiao Li to tell our teacher Ms. Wang about the bullying so she could keep a closer eye on the situation. She started assigning me and Xiao Li to be partners during group activities and letting us sit near her desk where the bullies couldn't bother us as easily. Ms. Wang also had a talk with the bullies' parents about their behavior, which seemed to help a little.
After a few weeks of intervening, the bullies eventually got bored of tormenting Xiao Li and moved on to other targets. Xiao Li was finally able to relax and be his fun, happy self a
gain. We could actually enjoy playing basketball and trading Pokémon cards at recess instead of being scared of the bullies.
Looking back, I'm really glad I decided to stand up to those bullies instead of just watching from the sidelines. Xiao Li is my best friend, and friends have to look out for each other, especially against mean people trying to bring them down. I learned that bullies really are just insecure cowards deep down – as soon as someone finally confronts them directly, they back off because they don't actually want real trouble.
Staying united with my friend and getting support from Ms. Wang helped us push back against the bullying together. If the bullies had kept ganging up on Xiao Li without anyone stepping in to help, I hate to think how much worse it could have gotten for him. No one deserves to be bullied like that just for being themselves. By working as a team and not giving the bullies what they wanted, we were able to resolve the situation.
I hope by sharing my story, it might inspire other kids being bullied to stick up for themselves with the help of friends and teachers. Bullying is never okay, and the only way t
o stop it is by showing bullies that their behavior is unacceptable and won't be tolerated. Thanks to standing my ground and rallying behind Xiao Li, we were able to make it through his bullying nightmare, and now he can just focus on being a kid again. I'm proud that by being a loyal friend, I was able to help put an end to the bullying and make our school a safer, happier place.

    A Friend in Need
My name is Xiao Ming and I'm a 5th grader at Baoshan Elementary School. I really like going to school and learning new things, but there's one thing I don't like - bullying. Bullying is when someone hurts, threatens or is mean to someone else over and over again. Some kids get bullied because of how they look, act, or for no reason at all. It's not fair and it's not right.
