    Hey there! It's me again, your favorite elementary school kid. Today I'm going to translate this really cool passage from my big sister's English textbook. She's in 7th grade now, so her stuff is getting pretty advanced. But I love a challenge!
    The passage is all about this famous artist named Vincent Van Gogh. I've actually seen some of his paintings before at an art museum on a school field trip. They're really trippy and colorful, with all these swirly brush strokes. The guy must have been on something wild when he painted them!
    Anyway, here's how the passage goes:
    Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch artist who was born in 1853. Even though he is famous no
w, he did not have an easy life. Van Gogh came from a poor family and he struggled to make money as an artist. In fact, he only sold one painting when he was alive!
    Can you imagine that? Painting all those amazing masterpieces that are worth millions today, but hardly anyone appreciated his work back then. It's crazy to think about! The passage says that people thought Van Gogh's style was too unusual and different from traditional art. I guess people back then were just stuck in their boring old ways.
    The passage then talks about how Van Gogh had some serious mental health issues. It says he experienced periods of "intense depression and emotional distress." That's just a nice way of saying the dude was pretty messed up in the head. He even cut off part of his own ear at one point! Yikes, no wonder his paintings look so wild and tormented.
    Despite all his troubles, Van Gogh kept on painting prolifically. He created over 2,000 artworks during his short career, including landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits. My favorite Van Gogh paintings are definitely his landscapes with those crazy swirling skies and bright colors. They're like something out of a psychedelic dream!
    Unfortunately, Van Gogh's life had a really sad ending. The passage states that at the young age of 37, he "died by suicide after years of mental anguish." It's just heartbreaking that this brilliant artist suffered so much during his lifetime and never got to see how famous and influential his work would become.
    But at least nowadays, Van Gogh's paintings are recognized as iconic masterpieces that shaped the course of modern art. Even though the guy had one messed up life, his incredible artistic vision lives on. Maybe if Van Gogh could see how celebrated he is today, it would have brought him some peace and happiness.

    My Big English Challenge
    Hi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm a 7th grader. I recently had to translate this really long and difficult passage in my English textbook for homework. It was on page 47, exercise 2d. At first I thought it would be super easy since I've been learning English for years. But boy was I wrong!
    The passage was all about these two kids named John and Emily who went on a camping trip with their family. It started out easy enough, describing how they packed up their tent, sleeping bags, and supplies into the car. I could handle vocabulary like "tent", "backpack", and "hiking boots" no problem. But then it got really tricky!
    Once they arrived at the campsite, there were all these crazy words I'd never seen before. Words like "kindling", "spark", and "tinder" to describe how they built a campfire. Who even uses words like that? I had to look up so many words in my dictionary. My mom tried to help but she didn't know lots of the outdoorsy camping terms either.
    The passage went on and on, describing in super detail all the things John and Emily did at the campsite. It talked about them setting up the tent, gathering firewood, cooking meals
over the fire, telling stories and roasting marshmallows at night. There were phrases about "pitching the tent", "stoking the fire", and "smoldering embers" that made no sense to me.
    By this point my brain was already fried from looking up so many unfamiliar words. But the passage just kept going! It then went into this long section about John and Emily hiking through the woods, climbing over fallen logs, fording a stream, and encountering all sorts of flora and fauna. I'm just a city kid - how am I supposed to know what a "game trail" or "wildflowers" are?
    After what felt like years, I finally reached the end where John and Emily were packing up to head home. Of course, there were still weird phrases about "striking camp" and "dousing the fire pit". By the time I finished translating the whole thing into Chinese, I was mentally and physically exhausted!
