    Short Videos: A Modern Obsession
    When I get home from school, I can't wait to whip out my phone and scroll through the latest short videos on TikTok and Instagram Reels. Those hilarious skits, cute pet clips, and awesome trick shots just never get old! Short videos have taken over the internet and become a huge obsession for kids my age.
    I remember a few years ago when Vine was popular and everyone was making those silly 6-second videos. It was funny at first, but the videos were just too short. You'd get into the start of a good joke and then bam! The video was over. When Vine shut down, a lot of people were pretty disappointed that they lost that entertainment source.
    But then TikTok came along and completely revolutionized short video content. Suddenly we had videos that could be up to a minute long, with way more creativity and production value. The best part is how easily the videos can go viral and blow up with millions of views and shares.
    One of my favorite things about TikTok is seeing regular kids becoming huge stars and influencers. Who would've thought someone could get incredibly famous just from making funny videos in their bedroom? It's pretty inspiring seeing people around my age get so much success.
    My parents are always lecturing me about not spending too much time staring at screens. But in my opinion, TikTok videos are way more entertaining than regular TV shows or movies. I can find tailored content that matches my niche interests, plus new videos are being uploaded literally every second. I'll never run out of fresh videos to watch.
    Speaking of finding niche interests, TikTok has helped me discover so many new hobbies and skills I never knew I was interested in. Thanks to product review videos, I got r
eally into trying different skincare routines. Crafting videos inspired me to take up crocheting. And workout videos motivated me to start exercising more. My parents are always saying how TikTok expanded my world in a good way.
    I have to admit, sometimes I do spend a little too much time mindlessly scrolling and watching video after video after video. It's just so addicting and fun to see what sort of crazy videos will come up next. My friends all have a major TikTok addiction too. We're constantly sending each other videos we found hilarious and trying to recreate them.
    At the same time, TikTok isn't all just silly trends and entertainment. A lot of people have started businesses and grown huge followings as influencers. It's become a way for everyday people to build a brand, earn money, and even become famous. Marketing companies are spending tons on influencer sponsorships and TikTok ads because they know how many eyeballs are glued to the app.
    Not only that, but TikTok has allowed marginalized communities to have a voice and share their experiences. People have bravely opened up about important issues like racism,
mental health, LGBTQ+ rights, and more. It's sparked some really powerful movements and brought people together. Of course, you also have to be careful about misinformation spreading too.
    While writing this essay, I just got a notification that one of my favorite TikTokers posted a new video. Part of me wants to stop writing and go watch it immediately. But I know I have to show a little self-control and restraint every once in a while when it comes to short videos.
