Last week was the May 1st holiday, and my parents gave me a big list of chores to do around the house. At first I wasn't too excited about spending my break doing work, but it ended up being kind of fun!
The first job they assigned me was cleaning out the garage. My dad helped me get started by moving all the big stuff to the middle so we could sweep the floors. There were sooooo many cobwebs! I'm pretty short so I had to get one of those long dusters to reach up high. We found all kinds of treasures buried under boxes – some old toys I had forgotten about, my mom's roller blades from high school, and even Grandpa's vintage tool set.
After the floors were clean, we went through every box and bin to sort out what to keep and what to get rid of. I made three piles – one for trash, one for donations, and one for the r
eally good stuff we wanted to keep. Dad said I could have whatever toys were still in good shape. Scoring some free toys was definitely a perk of this chore!
The donation pile ended up being huge. We had to make three trips to the Goodwill dropoff with our minivan totally packed each time. It felt good to get rid of so much clutter though. Now the garage is clean and organized again.
My next big task was washing all the windows, inside and out. We have a two-story house so this was not easy! For the downstairs windows I could reach from inside, but upstairs I had to go outside on a ladder. I was pretty nervous up there at first, but my dad showed me how to position the ladder properly and hold on tight while cleaning. He kept a close eye to make sure I was safe.
Squeegeeing the glass was oddly satisfying. Seeing those streaks disappear and the clear shine come through made me feel proud of my hard work. I may have gotten a little by the end I had cleaned every glass surface I could find – not just the windows but also the mirrors, shower doors, and even the microwave door! My arms were
exhausted but it was worth it.
Next up was scrubbing the kitchen from top to bottom – wiping down the counters and cabinets, cleaning out the oven and microwave, mopping the floors. We blasted music and made a dance party out of it to make the time go by faster. I discovered that soap scum and grease can really work up a sweat!
I don't think I had ever appreciated before how much effort goes into keeping a house clean. Doing all these chores gave me a new respect for all the hard work my parents put in every day.
On the last day of the holiday, we moved outside to do some yard work. We raked up all the dead leaves and grass, pulled weeds from the flower beds, and trimmed back the overgrown bushes. It was finally warm enough to work outside without coats. The sun felt nice as we got our hands dirty in the garden.
I have to admit, gardening was probably my favorite chore of the whole week. There was
something really calming about digging in the soil and making things look fresh and neat again. We even planted some new flowers and vegetable seeds for our summer garden. I'm excited to watch them sprout and grow over the next few months!
My mom rewarded all our hard work by grilling burgers for dinner on the patio. We were all sweaty and covered in dirt, but so proud of everything we had accomplished. As I bit into that juicy burger, it tasted extra delicious knowing I had really earned it.
sort of things什么意思    Overall, my May 1st holiday was definitely more productive than relaxing. But I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed checking things off the chore list and seeing the results of our effort. Our house has never looked so clean and refreshed!
I think my favorite part was just working together as a family. Instead of everyone being cooped up alone with their screens, we were side-by-side getting our hands dirty. We had good conversations, told jokes, and made some fun memories along with checking tasks off one by one.
Who knew doing chores could be so satisfying? I'm just glad it's over so I can go back to my regular kid schedule of

Last Labor Day weekend was really special for me. It was the first time I had to do so many chores around the house all by myself! My parents said since I was getting older, it was time for me to learn how to help out more and be responsible. At first I wasn't too excited about having to spend my holiday weekend cleaning instead of playing video games, but it ended up being a lot more fun than I thought.
