My Awesome Five-Day May Holiday Break
Yay, the May holiday finally arrived! No school for five whole days. I was so excited for this long break because it meant sleeping in late, playing video games all day, and not having to worry about homework or tests. Mom and Dad had different plans though - they wanted me to still be productive during the time off.
The first couple of days were pretty chill. I slept until 10am then lounged around in my pajamas playing games on my computer and watching movies. Dad made me do some light chores like taking out the trash and doing dishes, but it wasn't too bad. He said "You can't just be a lazy bum all break!" I helped Mom cook some meals which was fun. Her dumplings are the best.
On the third day, Mom declared it was time to "get some fresh air" so we went on a family hike at the big park near our house. I wasn't super thrilled about exercising on my vacation, but the weather was nice and it felt good to get outside after being cooped up inside for a couple days. We had a picnic lunch and I even spotted a few bunnies hopping around! The hike was longer than I thought it would be though and my legs were pretty sore afterwards.
When we got home, Dad told me I had to get started on the paper he assigned me to write over the break. He wanted a 5-page essay about what I had learned in my science class so far this year. I definitely glossed over some of the topics I didn't fully understand, but I managed to pull together a decent essay. It took me quite a while though - writing is not my favorite thing!
The next day was the middle of the break, so Mom let me basically do whatever I wanted. I slept in again until around 11am then played video games for most of the day. My best friend came over for a few hours too which was awesome. We played basketball in the
driveway for a bit to get some exercise like Mom wanted. Later we just chilled on the couch watching stupid YouTube videos and doubling over with laughter. I loved that easy-going day off.
Then it was the last day of holiday already! It went by so fast. Dad wanted to have one more "learning experience" before I went back to school, so he took me to the museum uptown. I have to admit, I was dreading it at first, but the museum was actually pretty interesting. We saw exhibits about dinosaurs, ancient Egypt, gemstones, and more. My favorite was the Nature Room which had a bunch of mounted animals like bears, wolves, and eagles. It looked just like scenes from the forest. At the end Dad quizzed me about what I learned, as teachers always do.
After the museum, we stopped for ice cream on the way home which was my reward for being a good sport all day. Triple chocolate chunk in a waffle cone - so delicious! That night I spent most of the evening getting my backpack and supplies ready for going back to school the next day. I put off doing homework as long as I could though. Going back to boring classes again was going to be such a bummer after five awesome days off!
Overall, I give my May holiday break an 8 out of 10. There was a good mix of relaxing, having fun, and being somewhat productive. If it was totally up to me, I probably would have just played video games the entire time! But Mom and Dad made sure I got out of the house, did some academic stuff, and spent quality time as a family. I liked all the little adventures we went on together. The only thing that would have made it better is if it was a 10-day break instead of just 5 days! Those weeks at school always feel so long. But I enjoyed the little vacation while it lasted. Now it's back to the grind and counting down to summer!

My Stay-at-Home Experience During the May Day Holiday in Grade 9
Wow, what a rollercoaster ride the May Day holiday was! It's hard to believe that just a few weeks ago, I was eagerly counting down the days until the break, dreaming of all the fun adventures I'd have. Little did I know that my plans would take an unexpected turn, and I'd end up spending the entire holiday at home. But you know what? It wasn't as boring as I
initially thought it would be!
As the holiday approached, my friends and I had grand plans to explore the city, visit amusement parks, and maybe even go on a short camping trip. We'd been looking forward to it for months, and the excitement was palpable. However, just a few days before the break, my parents sat me down for a serious talk. They explained that due to some health concerns, it would be best for our family to stay home during the holiday to avoid any potential risks.
At first, I'll admit, I was utterly disappointed. I pouted and whined, feeling like my world had come crashing down. How could I possibly have fun stuck at home for an entire week? But as the holiday drew nearer, I realized that I needed to make the best of the situation. After all, a positive attitude can go a long way!
The first few days were a bit of an adjustment. I found myself lounging around the house, watching TV, and playing video games. It was nice to have a break from the hectic school routine, but I knew I couldn't spend the entire week like that. So, I decided to get creative a
nd come up with some fun activities to keep myself entertained.
