My Life as a Middle Schooler Right Now
I'm just a regular kid going through the daily grind of being a middle schooler. My days are pretty routine at this point in the school year, but there's never a dull moment!
Right now, I'm waking up to the sound of my annoying alarm clock buzzing incessantly. I hit snooze a couple times, but my mom is hollering up the stairs for me to get going or I'll be late. Groggily, I roll out of bed and get ready for another day.
As I'm brushing my teeth, I try to remember if I have any tests today. I have a math quiz later, so I spend a few minutes going over some formulas in my head. Satisfying myself that I'm prepared, I head downstairs for breakfast.
The kitchen is a whirlwind of activity. My little brother is making a mess as usual, splashing milk everywhere. Meanwhile, my dad is rushing around trying to get out the door for work. In the chaos, I manage to scarf down a bowl of cereal before grabbing my backpack.
I'm hurrying out to catch the bus now. A bunch of my friends are already on board, saving me a seat towards the back. We laugh and joke around during the short ride to school. The bus driver has to shush us a few times for getting too rowdy.
Once we arrive, I'm immediately swept up in the sea of students flowing into the building. I wave to a few people I know as I make my way to my locker to switch out books for first period. The hallways are cramped and noisy with over a thousand middle schoolers all trying to get where they need to go.
The first bell rings, so I sprint off towards my homeroom class. I slide into my desk just as the late bell sounds. Mrs. Thompson, my English teacher, is writing out the daily schedule on the board. She's one of my favorite teachers - always nice but still keeps us in
line.
We start off with a reading comprehension exercise reviewing the homework from last night. I did pretty well on it, so I'm feeling confident as we go over the answers as a class. Then we move into analyzing a short poem, which is harder. Poetry isn't my strong suit, but I do my best to follow along.
All too soon, the period is over and it's off to my next class: history. Mr. Wilkins has us taking notes from a documentary video today. I try to stay focused, but I zone out a little thinking about my plans for after school. My friend Michael and I are going to hang out and play video games if we don't have too much homework.
Third period is math, never my favorite. But at least it's the quiz I prepared for this morning. I actually feel like I did pretty well on it, which is a relief. Still, I'll have to wait until next week to get my graded score back.
By the time fourth period computer class rolls around, I'm already feeling drained. Starin
g at the bright screens for an hour doesn't help revive my energy levels any. I diligently take notes and work on my coding project, but I'm counting downt the minutes until lunch.
The lunch bell is music to my ears! I meet up with my group of friends in the cafeteria, buying a couple slices of pizza and a carton of chocolate milk. We snag one of the corner table sections and settle in to eat and BS for the next 40 minutes. Jackson is rehashing the latest drama from his Spanish class while the rest of us jump in with commentary. Lunch period goes by way too fast.
In the afternoon, I have PE which is a nice break from sitting at a desk all day. Coach Parker has us running laps to start, which is a drag. But then we move on to playing basketball, which is fun even though I'm not very good. I work up a decent sweat either way.
After gym, it's just one more class - science. We're doing a group lab experiment, so that keeps things interesting. My lab partners and I have a pretty funny dynamic going where we joke around a lot while still (mostly) getting our work done. Mrs. Rodriguez has to call us sort of strange翻译
out a couple times for goofing off too much.
At long last, the final bell rings for the day! Sweet freedom! Well, sort of. I still have a couple hours of homework awaiting me at home. But first, I get to enjoy some downtime.
Michael and I link up at his house to play video games for a little bit. His mom chips in with some snacks, which we happily devour. We manage to beat a couple levels of our favorite co-op shooter game before regretfully having to log off for homework time.
Once home, I change into comfy clothes and get started on my assignments while leftovers from last night reheat in the microwave for dinner. Math and science require the most brainpower, so I tackle those first. My parents check in to make sure I'm being productive. After a grumbling battle, I finally get it all done.
