    My Best Friend is Super Good at English!
    Wow, you will never believe how awesome my best friend Emily is at English! She speaks it so perfectly and can read super hard books without even struggling. I'm like, "How do you do that Emily?!" And she just smiles and shrugs like it's no big deal. But it is a huge deal!
    In our English class, when the teacher asks a question, Emily's hand shoots up before anyone else's. She knows all the answers! The teacher calls on her and Emily speaks so clearly and uses fancy vocabulary words that I can't even pronounce. Like, where does she learn those crazy long words?! I'm sitting there like, "Huh? What did she just say?" While the teacher nods and smiles really big because Emily nailed it again.
    Then we have to do these long reading assignments from difficult books. I'm sweating and struggling, having to look up so many words I've never heard before. Meanwhile, Emily is breezing through, stopping just to politely raise her hand and answer any questions the teacher asks about the story. She somehow understands every single thing in those impossible books! The rest of us are all confused while Emily knows it all perfectly. It's mind-blowing!
    At recess, some of the kids like to make fun of the few students who moved here from other countries and don't speak perfect English yet. That's so mean and makes me sad for them. But Emily always sticks up for those kids. She'll politely say something like, "That's not nice. They're still learning. You shouldn't tease people for how they talk." Then she'll actually compliment their English skills and make them feel better! Emily is so kind and wise beyond her years.
    I really look up to Emily and her English genius. Whenever we have to do any writing assignments, I always ask Emily topmhelp me because her grammar is flawless. She'll say
things like, "Instead of saying 'goed' you want to say 'went.' And you'll need a period here, not a comma." My writing goes from sounding like a kindergartner's to almost as good as hers after her advice!
    Emily is also reading journals and books clearly meant for much older kids. Have you ever tried reading Shakespeare? It's impossible! Too many crazy old words that no one uses anymore. But not for Emily! She can quote Shakespeare poetry like nobody's business. It's so advanced that even some parents can't completely follow it. They'll look atEmily with jaws dropped, shocked that a third grader understands the language so well.
    I mean, it's just not normal how good Emily's English skills are! She helps out all the other students who are struggling without making them feel dumb. The teachers always choose her to read out loud or participate because they know she'll do it perfectly. We're all still learning and making lots of silly mistakes, while Emily is over here tossing around Middle English phrases like it's nothing!

    Sometimes I'll whisper to Emily, "Hey, English is your superpower! You're like a language
superhero or something!" She'll just giggle shyly and say "No, you're great at English too! You just have to keep practicing." Yeah right, Emily! I'll never catch up to her super brain.
    I really hope Emily becomes an English teacher one day, because she's so talented at it and has ton of patience. Mostly, I just love having her as my best friend. She helps me out and never mags feel dumb for asking a million questions. Emily is brilliant, but she's also the nicest, most caring person I know. She's my idol when it comes to English, and just the best friend anyone could hope for! I feel so lucky to have Emily making English fun instead of stressing me out.

    My Classmate Katie Is Super Duper Good At English!
    Wow, my friend Katie is the most amazing English speaker ever! She knows like a billion words and can read the hardest books without even trying. It's so unfair that she's so smart and the rest of us are dumb dummies who can barely speak English good.
    Katie always gets the highest scores on English tests and the teacher is always saying "Great job Katie! You are so talented at English!" I'm really jealous of how easily everything comes to her. Whenever we have to do presentations, Katie stands up and speaks perfect English without even looking at her notes. The rest of us are shaking and sweating and stammering through our speeches. Katie makes it look so easy!
    In reading class, the teacher calls on Katie to read the hardest pages with all the crazy words that no one else understands. Katie just breezes through them like they are nothing! When the rest of us try to read those pages, we get all tongue-tied and can't pronounce anything. Katie is like a English pronouncing super hero or something!
