The Last Six Years of My Life: A Huge Transformation
Wow, have the last six years been a whirlwind for me or what? It's crazy to think about how much I've grown and changed since I was just a little kid back in kindergarten. Now that I'm about to finish up 5th grade, I can't help but look back and reflect on this incredible journey.
When I try to remember what life was like way back when I was 5 years old, it's almost like peering into another world entirely. So much is different now. Back then, I was just a tiny little thing, barely taller than a kitchen table. My world revolved around playing make-believe, chasing butterflies in the backyard, and begging my parents to rea

The Last Six Years of My Life
A lot of things have changed for me over the last six years! When I try to think back to how things were in 2018, it feels like a really long time ago. I was just a little kid back then. Now I'm about to finish elementary school and get ready for middle school. So much has happened since those days of being a tiny first grader.
One of the biggest changes has been how much I've grown, both physically and mentally. In 2018, I was so small and could barely reach the kitchen counters. Now I'm one of the tallest kids in my class! My parents always joke that they are going to have to start buying bigger sizes of clothes for me every few months because I just keep shooting up like a weed.
Not only have I grown taller, but I've also become a lot smarter and more mature. When I look back at some of my old schoolwork from first and second grade, it's almost embarrassing how simple it seems. The things I can do now, like writing long essays, doing complicated math, and understanding science concepts, would have been impossible for lit
tle 6-year-old me. My brain has developed so much over these years.
Some of my biggest mental changes have come from experiencing more of the world. In 2018, my whole universe was just my house, my school, and the neighborhood park. But over the last few years, I've been able to travel to new places and be exposed to different cultures.
I'll never forget my first big trip when I was 8 years old and my family went to Washington D.C. Seeing all the famous monuments and museums opened up my eyes to how big and diverse America truly is. Then when I was 9, we went to Mexico for a vacation and I practiced speaking Spanish for the first time. Being immersed in another language and way of life was a bit shocking at first, but ultimately helped me become more understanding of different cultures.
Just in the last year, I went on my first airplane flight to California to visit my cousins. Flying was an incredibly thrilling experience that made me feel like a grown-up. While I was in California, I saw the Pacific Ocean for the first time and tried surfing. That was a total dis
aster and I probably swallowed about a gallon of salt water! But it was still an amazing adventure.
All of these travel experiences have expanded my perspective so much. I realize now that there is a whole big world out there beyond my little hometown. I've learned that people can look different, speak different languages, eat different foods, and live different lifestyles than what I'm used to -- and that's okay! It's made me much more curious to keep learning about how other people live.
Another major change has been the development of my interests and hobbies. Back in 2018, my biggest hobbies were watching movies, coloring, and playing on the swingset. Those were fun for a little kid, but pretty boring compared to what I'm into now.
Over the last few years, I've discovered I love reading novels, playing soccer, coding computer programs, and doing science experiments. I'm obsessed with fantasy book series like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. I spend a lot of time practicing my soccer skills, working on coding projects in Python and JavaScript, and trying out hands-on experiments
I find online. Who knew learning about concepts like Newton's Laws of Motion could be so fun?
My hobbies and interests make me feel much more independent than I used to be too. These days, I'll often shut myself in my room for hours just getting absorbed in a new book or computer program. My parents don't have to constantly entertain me and make sure I'm stimulated anymore. I can rely on myself to explore my own passions.

The Last Six Years - An Essay by a 5th Grader
Wow, it's hard to believe how much things have changed in just the last six years! When I try to think back to what life was like way back in 2018, it feels like a totally different world. I was just a little kid back then, not even in kindergarten yet. Now I'm a big fifth grader getting ready to go to middle school next year. So much is different!
I remember when I was really little, we had this big boxy TV in the living room. It was one
of those old flat screen TVs, but it was still kind of chunky. My parents would put DVDs into the DVD player to watch movies. We didn't have any of those cool streaming services like Netflix or Disney+ back then. Whenever we wanted to watch something, we had to go to the movie store and rent the DVDs. Wild, right?
