    My Adventures in English Essay Writing
    Hi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 5th grader at Bright Future Elementary School in Anhui Province. I really love learning English and practicing my writing skills. Over the past couple years, there have been some interesting English essay topics for the zhuan sheng ben exam that students need to take to get into university. Let me tell you about some of them!
    Last year, one of the prompts was "If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?" That one was fun to write about! I chose to write my essay on going to Australia. I've always wanted to see the Great Barrier Reef and all the amazing fish and coral there. Plus, how cool would it be to see kangaroos just hopping around in the wild? I wrote a
bout wanting to go snorkeling and scuba diving to explore the underwater world. I also said I'd love to visit the Outback and learn about the Aboriginal culture. Maybe I could even get to hold a koala bear! Writing that essay made me really wish I could hop on a plane to Australia right away.
    Another prompt from last year was "What is your favorite holiday and why?" For that one, I wrote all about Chinese New Year. I love the decorations with the red lanterns and the delicious dumplings my grandma makes. My favorite part is getting hung bao full of money from my relatives! I described the firecracker celebrations and lion dances. I also talked about some of the traditions like cleaning the house to sweep away bad luck before the new year. Even though it's a lot of work helping my mom prepare, Chinese New Year is the best with all the fun, food, and family time.
    This year, one of the zhuan sheng ben essay topics was "If you could meet any person from history, who would it be and what would you ask them?" That was a hard one! There are so many fascinating people I've learned about. After lots of thinking, I decided to write a
bout meeting Zheng He, the famous Chinese explorer from the Ming Dynasty. I was really interested to learn how he led those huge voyages across the Indian Ocean with a giant fleet of ships called "treasure ships." If I could meet Zheng He, I would ask him to describe what it was like navigating through storms and exploring new lands. I'd want to know if he got to see crazy animals like elephants up close. And maybe he could teach me some useful sailing knots and skills!
    Another prompt this year was "What is the most important invention in history and how has it impacted the world?" For that essay, I wrote about the printing press invented by Johannes Gutenberg. Before that, every book had to be written out by hand - what a pain! The printing press made it so much easier to share knowledge and stories with more people. It helped drive things like the Renaissance and the spread of great ideas and discoveries across the world. I talked about how the printing press was really the start of the information age we live in today. Without it, we might not have things like newspapers, encyclopedias, textbooks, and even great novels. The printing press truly revolutionized how humans could learn and communicate.
    Well, those are some of the fun English essay topics I've gotten to write about for the zhuan sheng ben exam lately. As you can see, the prompts really make you think about all sorts of interesting subjects - from travel and culture to major historical figures and inventions that changed the course of history. I've learned so much through researching and writing these essays. Plus, it's great practice for expressing myself clearly in English. I'm already looking forward to seeing what thought-provoking topics come up next year!

    My School Days and Dreams for the Future
    Hi there! My name is Xiao Ming and I'm a 5th grade student at Sunshine Elementary School here in Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province. I really like going to school and learning new things every day. My favorite subjects are math, science, and English. I work really hard because I have big dreams for my future!
    In English class, we've been practicing writing essays for the Zhuan Sheng Ben exams.
Zhuan Sheng Ben means "transition from junior to senior" and it's a program where students from junior colleges can transfer to regular 4-year universities after passing tests. My English teacher says the essay portion is very important, so we've been doing lots of practice prompts.
    One practice prompt we did recently was "Describe your plans and goals for the future." For that one, I wrote about how I want to become an engineer when I grow up. I'm really interested in designing new inventions and technologies that can help make people's lives better. Maybe I could create a new type of robot that can assist elderly people or help clean up pollution. Or perhaps I'll design more eco-friendly cars and renewable energy systems. There are so many amazing possibilities in engineering!
    Another essay prompt was "What is your biggest fear and how do you think you can overcome it?" That was kind of a tricky one. My biggest fear is probably failing at something important. I get really nervous about tests and assignments sometimes, worried that I won't do well enough. But I know the best way to overcome that fear is through hard
work and perseverance. If I continue studying diligently and giving my full effort, I'll increase my chances of success. It's also helpful to have a positive mindset and not get too discouraged if I make mistakes along the way.
sort of my superpower    We've also had to write about more creative topics, like "If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?" I chose the ability to fly because then I could soar high up in the sky and see the entire world! Can you imagine how amazing that view would be? I'd get to travel everywhere easily too. Although I guess being able to fly could be kind of a mixed blessing if I got caught out in a thunderstorm or something. Maybe super strength would be a safer superpower to have! Then I could help out with construction projects and rescuing people from disasters.
